The opening poem contains all the words (or variations of them) from today's Jumble.
Comments are welcomed! And couching them in Poetry is definitely NOT required.
Do not explicitly reveal any of the actual answer words until after closing time, but embedding them surreptitiously in comment sentences is encouraged.

IMHO, j4 solution is cute. But I really like j6. It makes sense both ways, doesn't it?

But would it have been a children's choir? I'll have to look that up.

Apparently Watts did much more than write hymns.

I could only find references to cathedral choirs, which seem to have been composed of both boys and men. Can't find any beginning time frame, though.

Interesting, though.

BTW, Owen, I like your Mrs. Claus!

The J6 solution popped up before I started to solve the clue words.
I thought it made perfect sense, both ways. Not particularly amusing, though.

"Praise the Hero in the Sky"
When I was a kid, my mom took me down to the marina
for a picnic outing on the grass near Funston park.
This was in wartime, and we were in an arena
of ground-shaking aerial combat. I thought it a lark
to watch planes overhead in what mom called a "dogfight"--
ear-splitting runs as planes chased each other & swept
windsocks with cameras. The "targets" wagged to verify
each "kill." That's what mom said, and I had to accept
the pilots could tell what I couldn't--with no bullets at all.
We lay with our arms under heads, facing up, feeling small.

"Jewel Journey"

Alice was happy to accept
a gorgeous gift that she kept.
It was a jewel whose value to clarify
she went to an expert to verify.
She decided an insurance to impose
and it was a good policy she chose.
Thanks to this, she was not as shaken
when she was robbed and her jewel was taken.
This happened on an outing,
and its return she began, sadly, doubting.
But on a meadow green and grassy
the police spotted something classy.
Her jewel, taken by a gang,
was returned, and their praises she sang.
She thanked the police with her heart,
and a reward, which was their just part.

Misty ~ Glad Alice got her jewel back. Thieves with sentimental hearts are what we all should wish for.
I wonder if the insurance paid the reward. To the thieves?
Are cops eligible for posted rewards?

Note that the following response to J4 takes no political position
but merely describes a situation "as is" in a SW swing state:

"Santa La Paz"
Jeff Flake launched attacks on Donald Trump
which led to fewer votes--and more complaining
souls giving up on him. This led in turn to a bump
called "Outta here!" as Flake dropped campaigning
for the next senate race. Arizonans found it easier to fry
a snail, or else to sauté a snake in the grass
than find snowflakes in Buckeye
as they kicked Flake's ass.

Well, you are clearly in great poetic shape this morning, Ol' Man Keith, with a moving childhood verse, and a clever (non-political, really?) one after that. Thank you for both of these gifts!

I assumed the thieves were just careless and simply dropped the jewel as they were leaving the house, with a bunch of other things they may have stolen. But you're probably right that police wouldn't be allowed to accept a reward for finding a stolen article. Thanks for clarifying that.
