Pongy Heap Hole

The weary dog growls
when served hard, peppered Alpo.
He wants “Smooth,” not “Crunch.”

People Pleasers

Stomachs growled at the smell,
Hot peppers crunched in your mouth,
Piano music soothed the weary soul,
The hungry were filled.

OMK- today’s J reveal was impossible to Spooner, but you made a valiant effort! (I had to LIU Pongy (stinky). Poor dog with spicy ALPO. I smiled at the thought of having the option of Smooth or Crunch dog food.
I went with a different muse today. It isn’t quite a haiku (the third line is excess) nor does it rhyme. But I included the W, and I rather like the result, (and the weight of the last line) if I do say so myself.

"Reward"

Pat was one of those people
who one day climbed up a steeple.
It didn't make him weary,
and all the applause made him cheery.

The next day he was hungry
and needed some lunch,
so he ordered a steak with pepper
which he did happily crunch.

But eating it made his stomach growl,
though not enough to make him howl.
The waiter, who admired Pat,
brought him a cake, and said,
"In your honor I did this bake."

Fortunately for us, Misty keeps track of “those people.”
Otherwise we would not be able to keep up with the curious activities of folk like Pat, nor follow the ups & downs of their moods.
Now we count ourselves among those who wait on him & would happily bake a cake in his honor!

CanadianEh! ~ I like your near-haiku very much. And we know it is completely in the true spirit of the original art NOT to be slavish in imitating form. A very good thing as far as the title goes, because as you say it would be impossible to Spoonerize it.
Your poem itself earns the right to extra syllables. The final line moves from prep to completion, so is a slight “flip.”
Damn fine job all around!

CEh! ~ Thanks for awarding my title attempt the “valiant” honor! I knew while working on it that I could not hope for more.
In my initial try, I had “pungent” for the first word, but then I remembered “pongy”—a much closer fit—from my student days In England.
“Heap Hole” is a metric stretch as a match for “people,” but at least it rhymes.
Ah, well, we do our best.

Ol' Man Keith, I don't think your dog owner should mess with his pup's Alpo. Just open the can and empty it in his bowl. At least that's what I remember from feeding my dachshunds, back in the day, before they were taken out by coyotes. Now I have a different problem. My only pet is my turtle Gophie (breed gopherus aggassi--didn't check the spelling), and she gets a platter of fresh lettuce pieces and small pieces of watermelon and grapes every day. Her problem is that within minutes after I put the platter in front of her, a group of bees fly in and descend on the plate and Gophie can't take a chance of getting stung and so leaves the platter and goes in her corner. I then give her a second platter--and I'd actually better go out there and see if she's eaten any of it.

CanadianEh!, would love to know the location where your lucky eaters got to listen to piano music while they enjoy their food. Would love to join them!

P.S. OMK, I just checked on Gophie, and it looks as though she might have eaten almost all of her watermelon pieces and grapes, and even some of the lettuce. Yay!

Misty- you keep me smiling with your poem people like Pat, who climbs a steeple, no less! And he eats with a crunch. What a story. And your rhyme scheme is unique today too.

Thanks for your kind comments OMK.

I hadn’t refreshed the page, and missed Misty’s comments.
Poor Gophie with those bees. I’m glad she got to eat tonight.

Have a peaceful evening and a quiet and happy morning tomorrow, OMK and CEh!.
I have son and brother coming from out of town tomorrow, so may not have time to check in with you, but I'll do my best when I can. I want to wish you both a wonderful Thanksgiving.
