The trivia challenge was going to start in just a little while.
Raymond thru back a couple beers, tipsy was his style.
A new format was being tried, since everybody had a cell.
An app would pose the questions, and would time as well.

The first question was make a list of all foods of Mexico.
He knew nothing Spanish, at first he only thought of taco.
Then he realized he only needed the menu from Taco Tell!
He reeled off his favorites, the ones he warmly knew so well.

Burrito, empanada, jalapeno, guacamole, and quesadilla
Tostada, salsa, huevos rancheros, pico de gallo, and sopapilla!
Ray was drawn into debates on spelling, or which were Mexican...
Next week the organizers went back to their old configuration!

Hmm. Only one item on the menu contains the J words letters. Could there be some syllabic reversal afoot?

Re-read v.2, l.2 left of the comma for a bonus hint.

Ha! Yes, of course, now I get it!

The clues were pretty simple, but nothing easy about the solution.

I do like the poem, especially the second verse. Although the third made me realize there are things I haven't tried, yet.

Had trouble with the fourth item, but Owen's poem helped me get that one--many thanks, Owen. Did I get the solution? Only if it's one of the food items in the first line of Owen's last stanza. Did I get it?

I think she's got it. By George, she's got it!

Thanks, Sandyanon--you made me laugh!

Just what I figured.
You're clever (among other virtues) at disguising your clues, Owen.
