The opening poem contains all the words (or variations of them) from today's Jumble.

The interstellar station, where we have met before*
Caters to all races, with a cafe on each floor.
The sandwich shop for termite critters serves up planks
Of balsa, oak, or elm, enclosing sawdust franks.
The Tooni subsist on sound-waves for aural energy.
A flamenco fast guitar is their bistro's best entree!
A sweet shop is where the Anthracites are prone to loll,
Munching cement peanut brittle, and drinking Coca-Coal!
Then there are the Micks, a race of telepathic yeast.
They're famous for the beers they peddle on the street.
They can tell how to mix your perfect drink or vape,
And for an extra charge, they'll sell you a taste tape!

The social media joker had fun photo-shopping out the heads of politicians & switching them with those of orangutans & monkeys. He would post 2 or 3 of these at a time, enjoying each pix jape.

Again, a most winning poem, Owen, with a neatly developed theme--"races" that stretch our limited imaginations. You give new meaning to the "cultural construct" theory!
Your interstellar station takes the diversity prize.
The jumble is timely, with the Stones' return to the Rose Bowl after--what?--50 years?!

Appreciate the poem, Owen. Not having a good day. See ya tomorrow.
Hope things pick up for you, Sandy.
Great poem,Owen and it did ring a bell.
My son, Phil saw me struggling with the 4's. Five minutes later back came the newspaper.
I do say 3 and 4 were difficult. Given the R&R guy the Riddle-Solution was easy.

Let me add: Phil was only vaguely aware of Mick J. Not to speak of John, Paul, George and Ringo

I hope Owen is getting more rest & not having a relapse. The Aug 30 jumble isn't posted yet.

I'm afraid Owen is having a bad day; hope it's not too serious.
I did the daily jumble on the Tribune site. Only the fourth clue needed a moment's thought, and the solution came easily once I settled on the correct two-letter word in the middle. I did think the pun was sort of meh, with an abrupt change in its part of speech. But what the heck!
Good wishes to you, Owen.
I join Sandy in sending good wishes to Owen, our generous leader. We care.
I waited till this morning to do the Aug 30 jumble in the LA Times. It was easy, as Sandy says. For me the key to the solution was the first word, which was a variant of one that is obviously missing from the cartoon.
The young mother slowly trained her infant son from her breast to the bottle. He fussed a lot at first but after a week he seemed comfortable with the new arrangement. At 7 months, she felt it was time to train him to the sippy-cup. He balked at first, but he came around—or so she thought.
All at once he started fussing again. “But I just re-weaned him!” she cried.

I had some trouble with #4 but got it. Apparently, I did have the first two words of the solution since Keith hints so.
.
I just didn't see the rather mundane third word.
Yes, I hope to see more interstellar takes from Owen soon
WC
PS. Lots of trouble at the CC I just can't get the SE corner.
.
I'm alive but in a lot of pain . Haven't been able to tousemy phone till now, and no chance to use my laptop for a couple days at least. So Wilbur will have to get the day turned over. Ask Tony or TTP over at CC for help.
It is good to see your words, Owen, even to know you're hurting. That part is awful news, and we're all pulling for you. If it is still the sepsis, I know what a bitch it can be to get completely clear of it. I don't know if you're dealing with ulcerations too, but whichever turns the infection takes, they are all curable. Please don't worry one bit about anything but getting well.
Thank you for getting word to us.

It's really good to hear from you, Owen. I'm so sorry for the pain, but hoping that you'll be through it in a short time, and out the other side.
Yes, please, don't worry about the jumble.
Just did the jumble on the Chicago Tribune site that Owen lists.
For reference, it's a cartoon of two boys sitting and eating by a car built in 1954, and their mother is praising their work. The caption reads "They got hungry while waxing their car, so they stopped to..."
Welk, the clue words weren't difficult, though I had to write a couple of them out reorganized. The solution was three words ------ --- -----.
The solution came pretty easily too, once I saw what the three-letter word had to be. Cute pun.
Sandy's description is pretty accurate. I did my jumble again in the LA Times--a fine source as long as they remember to deliver my paper.
As for today's solution: The bomb squad’s duty was clear. They faced a device known to have multiple triggers buried under the approach paths. These triggers were protected by hardened seals—Ah, but Cpl. Jensen knew just how to break through them. He would exert the right amount of pressure and listen for their cracking sound.
His knew his job was to get in there, demolish tough crunch-ing surfaces, and remove the hot triggers.
Hoo-YAH!

No Owen today either. I hope he's ok; pain itself is bad enough, but I do hope that it's not a symptom of something really serious.
I just saw Owen's message. Perhaps TTP or Tony (-T) can tell me how to post the riddle, picture and J's.
I was gone all day yesterday and still haven't done anything CC or Jumble on Saturday.
.
But I finally got all six TBTimes J's and the Riddle-Solution helped me with the last two letters of #5.
I wonder if Owen has posted on FB?
What I should have mentioned is that I do everything in my smartphone
. WC
Is Owen okay, Wilbur? Let him know we're thinking about him and wishing him well.
I figured I'd never get this Sunday Jumble--six words plus that long second word solution. But amazingly, I got it all, and the solution turned out to be as clear as water--well, no, not that clear, but pretty easy to perceive. Hope everyone is well. It's so good to be back on both crossword and Jumble after my three days of Internet outage.
Weak and almost any movement causes pain. Been sleeping more hours a day than I thought possible to avoid the pain. Docs seem to have given up on figuring a cause or cure. Time and therapy is the only recommendation. They're deporting me to a nursing home in Lost Almost*.
Wilbur, sorry, I didn't realize you are also just on a smart phone. If turning the page on the blog could be done with that, I could do it myself. I don't know if even a tablet could do it, since it needs both mouse and keyboard.
Once there was a fable,
You may take as true or false,
Of a thief who was so able
He seemed immune to any laws.
He attained such notariaty
Not to mention ill-got gains
He was welcomed in society
Along with big-shot names.
To brunches for a bite to eat,
And dinner parties, formal.
Took the podium to boast his feats.
For a politician, was he normal?
* Lost Almost = Los Alamos
Interesting. I seem to have a split personality. When I'm writing, the pain and disorientation seem to go away. Or at least not to dominate so.
Would someone visit my Facebook page and leave a message that, I'm not well enough to use my laptop, buy sending updates on my (ill-)health here to JumbleHints?
I'll try to post on Owen's FB page on my desktop in the morning, but I'll need his last name.
~ OMK
OMK, if you haven't been to the FB page yet, don't worry; I think I can handle it.
I posted a comment that shows right after his last one on Aug. 28.
P.S. The jumble cartoon today shows a bunch of people at an outdoor table complaining. The caption reads, "People at the Labor Day cookout struggled when the mosquitoes ...". The solution is in five words: --- - ---- -- ---
I thought it was clever and funny. Owen's poem above is quite apropos.
Thanks for stepping in, Sandy. I tried, but my efforts were in vain. Not knowing Owen's surname was a handicap that handed this ol' lad a right defeat.
Let's all hope his health takes a strong & lasting turn for the better!

When I ran into a problem with the third Jumble word this morning, I prayed, Oh I hope Owen will be back this morning! And there it was, your delightful sweet poem, Owen--so great to have you back. Got the third word then, but still had to look up the solution--although there it was in your poem, in plain site--oops, I mean 'sight'--where I should have caught it. Anyway, along with a fun Labor Day puzzle, a great way to start the beginning of Fall. I just hope the folks in the path of the hurricane stay safe. And again, Owen, it's wonderful to get your poem again.
I am more naive than my years should allow.
Yes, I just found Owen's FB page, under the same handle he uses here.
My mistake was assuming that everybody uses full names on F'book.
Doh!
~ OMK
Yes, quick J today. Owen, TTP tells me one needs "privs" to open a new "day" eg comment page.
WC
Got on my laptop briefly today and set up pages for Sep. 3, 4, & 5. They will turn over automatically at midnight, but they'll just be blank pages. I'll try to pp
provide the scrambled letters, but if one of you can get to it before me I'd appreciate it. 🌺
Owen, your dedication is admirable. I do hope the pain has subsided significantly, so that setting up the pages wasn't too stressful.
I can certainly provide the unscrambled words -- given that I solve the jumble, of course! They'll be in a comment. Hope that's ok.
