The opening poem contains all the words (or variations of them) from today's Jumble.

Please tell me that someone has seen what I've been doing all week!

Thalia, the goddess of humor,
Exhausted sinks to her bed.
She has flown many miles like an eagle,
Stuffed ideas into many a head.
You'll see her mark in books you read,
In movie lines that draw laughs.
She's in the spoken word of each language.
Well, Klingon might give her a pass.

The pantheon of Rome is outdated.
We're done with those Italic gods.
But the Muses are ever young yet,
Giving help to us humble sods!
It's Thalia who keeps our world level,
Humor that gives light in our soul.
You and I are the same when we're laughing,
Endorphins flooding in on a roll!

Well now, this is more like it--back to a reasonable challenge and a cute solution.
This feels more like the real jumble game! Why revelin the victory, though, when it comes so easily?

A lovely tribute to Thalia, Owen! I'm not sure what we have been missing. Maybe my visits have been too sporadic. Are you developing a theme with the Muses?

First, it wasn't the heat that was my initial problem. That was allergies, my discomfort exacerbated by the heat.

I plead denseness, Owen. I've gone back and re-re-read Monday through today, and though there seems to be a thread of humor or things not working out the way they're intended to, or tricks, I just don't see what you mean.

Anyway, I enjoyed today's poem, which packs a lot of sense into its smoothly flowing lines. Laughing at problems does help me.

The jumble itself was not terribly difficult, though the solution needed a few moments' thought. I didn't think it was very clever, though; the idea seems strained.

The key is Sunday.

Sandyanon said...

Oh, ok. Now I think I see. But was that prescience or just incredible flexibility with the jumble words each day?

OwenKL said...

A bit of both, probably. I hate to take the shine off my talent, but it's really not that hard to fit 5 or 6 random words into any long-enough story. But getting itchy, singe, and spongy for a story about pranks was just too easy!

Well, this was my easiest Jumble in ages. I got all four words without a single hesitation, and the solution was right there, just as I thought it would be. So I was able to enjoy your delightful Thalia poem without having to search for words or answers, Owen. I love the cartoon setting in the coffee bar with folks drinking in the background and the prices on the blackboard on the wall. And the male and female narcissists are at perfect eye level, as they should be. This will be a favorite Jumble of mine, I think.

P.S. Sorry to hear about the allergy and heat discomfort, Sandyanon. And so glad you're back with us--we missed you.

I solved very early, wrote a post and lost it.

I actually thought the Riddle-Solution clever. Perhaps because of the ego driven folks I encounter

I wonder if it was the 4*4 from Sunday that Owen is referring to. It's not in the newspaper here.

WC

My problem with today's solution was not jotting down the right letters. GAMES could not be a word.

I found it

I"she hears alarms of a disaster that impends,
She'll make them false alarms for a prank he intends."

The theme of a later poem

Dig a little deeper, Wilbur. Man, I had no idea I was so obtuse! What you got was right, but incomplete.

OwenKL said...

Not obtuse. Obscure, opaque.

Well, as I look back over recent poems, I am still not sure what response you're inviting. Your verses are all clever, and all very Owen-ish. So it is hard to say where your themes cohere into something different in time from prior postings.
I see certain institutions being challenged--church, bakery, firehouse--along with some supernatural spirits. You pay a lot of attention to unintended consequences, projects or pranks started that reach a reduced ending.
I don't find anything obscure. Except perhaps our sight in distilling them into a single moral or cozier theme.
More hints, please...

I think you all should take note of what Owen said at 9:08am and read the Sunday, July 28 poem.

Wilbur Charles said...

Duuuhhhh!!!!

The key OMK is to read Monday-Thursday THEN go back and read Owen's Thalia poem from Sunday that he linked as Sandy pointed out. .

So Sandy and I get it. Hint #2? Ok. Presage or perhaps prequel.

In addition, Owen has arranged the"hints" by days of this current week

Finally, my apologies for not getting it. Perhaps as I said I skipped the reveal poem and was concerned about the 6*6.

Misty, if you're out there. TBBT is The Big Bang Theory about physicists and the alternate lifestyles. Raj is from India and was unattached hence his "fling" with Siri.

It was the annual Emmy award winner* for it's 12-13 seasons.

WC

*Or contender. Ratings were 1,2,3 yearly.

Wilbur Charles said...

Also, RAJ is occasionally clued as such.

Look, I KNOW certain ideas were planted along with Thalia in last Sunday's verses--the organ/calliope, church/circus, bakery/perfumery, etc. Even pipe dream/pipes.
And now with Thalia's return, I appreciate the continuation of these and other motifs.
But if there is anything else, then let me confess that I am just that dense.
I know it is never fun to spell out a secret for the slow guy's benefit (like explaining a joke!), but I guess that's the only way to let me into the clubhouse.
