A bank was once a staid place,
With cornices and columns.
Quiet as a library's space,
Or a cathedral, solemn.
Most bankers still are trusted
For advice that's honest
On wealth to be invested,
On nest-eggs showing promise.

In offices the guest chairs
Are comfortable and solid,
While swivel chairs are theirs,
To screens where funds are plotted.
Their attitudes are sunny
As they fill in blanks on forms.
With other people's money
Freedom from mistakes is norm.

Choosing bank or credit union
Leaves some folks in a dither,
Like choosing goose or mutton
To serve at Christmas dinner.
Whichever way you opt to go
What you deposit is insured.
So mattresses, folks can forgo,
And piggy banks be abjured!

The jumble was medium for me. I had to reorganize the letters for clues three and four, but then the answers apoeared. And with all the solution letters available, the last word popped out, and then the middle one, leaving the obvious two letters. The pun was one of those that makes me groan while I'm smiling -- cute but silly.

I enjoyed your poem, Owen, despite the fact that it brought out my skepticism. I see how ingeniously the idea enabled you to work in the jumble words, but I'm not at all sure about that 'trust'.

My old bank branch is now a clothing store. It went through a phase of selling men's clothes, but now specializes in women's. I do not shop there. I can't trust it.

Forgive me, but I have to ask:
If a wasp should dine on his cousin's intercostal meat, would that be listed on the menu as a Hornet's rib steak?

Fun Jumble cartoon this morning, and nice to find all four words in your poem, Owen. I had no problem with the four words and got the second word of the solution right away, but finally had to look up the first hyphenated word. Very clever solution. But I have a question about the lovely color cartoon with the autumn leaves on the trees. Judging by the colors of the birds, it looks to me as though the dark blue mom is the one in the wrong nest and that her dark blue babies are in the nest higher up. Mistake on the colorist's part? Do their colors not matter? Or am I just nit-picking?

(P.S. In the paper's black and white cartoon, both Moms appear to be dark while all the babies are light).

Nice catch Misty, you are so observant. I blew through this. Riddle-Solution popped right away.

I'll reread that poem later.

Keith -- I did insert "Most" are trusted. If I could have condensed it, I would have written "Any non-Welles Fargo bankers".

Misty -- the birds' coloration bothered me, too. Especially since the third nest in the background, the colors do match. I rationalized that many species, the young are colored differently from mature animals. But more likely the colorist made a really stupid mistake.

Or possibly, Owen, that was the point. The bird did say, "Happens all the time."
(Do birds see color? Just an idle question. But guess I'll LIU.)

Yes they do. Better than humans, apparently. So either the cartoonist or the bird made a big mistake.I

(BTW, I did immediately think of Wells Fargo when I read your poem, Owen, but didn't want to start a discussion on the merits of various banks.)

It's so cool that you looked up whether birds see color, Sandyanon! And how interesting that they do! I learn something new on our two blogs every day!

Smart observation, Misty, followed by some clever possible explanations from others.
I'm going with the theory that we are all watching a fresh mistake as it is happening...
