The opening poem contains all the words (or variations of them) from today's Jumble.

(continued from yesterday)
Sam first went to see Murphy the Chutist.
He worked the Grand Canyon as an opportunist.
Getting to the bottom was a day trip by donkey,
But Sam had to find out if Murphy was wonky.
He found the Chutist between tangling chores,
Lolling in a hammock he had strung up outdoors.
"What I do is switch cords, they still hold fast,
But seeing skydivers hang upside-down is a blast!"
People getting killed would put a knot in his fun.
He was unfit as murderer, so he wasn't the one.
The ride on out, on a hybrid mule's jouncing back
Was rough, but he sometimes caught a cooling draft.
(to be continued.)
Aha! The gremlin investigation continues!
Murphy's shenanigans remind me why, in my summer of skydiving ('68), we were required to examine and pack our own chutes. I suppose they still do that.
But I do appreciate Murph's delicacy in discriminating between humiliation and outright murder.
A nice 'n easy jumble to start the week.
Apropos of nothing but today's solution, I think it fair to say that Thor Heyerdahl's Kon Tiki was one tough raft.
Happy First Day of Fall, Everybody!

Can't believe how you worked all those disparate words into a fun poem, Owen--many thanks. I had to work a little to get the first and fourth word, but once I had all the letters, the Jumble solution popped right up. Ol'Man Keith, your pun on it just cracked me up--you are so clever!
The drawing is nothing special, though I like the way the guys are wearing the same outfit. Wouldn't have thought that electric fan inventors had to wear uniforms. Anyway, I've had a terrific morning, getting puzzle, sudoku, kenken, and Jumble without any problems. Hope the rest of the week is as good as this beginning.
The clues were basically easy, though the fourth one took a couple of extra moments. And once all the letters were there, the solution popped right up. I get the pun, but I'm not sure that the adjective actually fits the literal meaning of the noun, as described in the cartoon.
Anyway, I went back to yesterday's poem to refresh my memory, and then understood Sam's task. So we next move on to cars??? And maybe that's not the gremlin culprit either!
I wondered for a moment, Misty, about your calling the guys' clothes "uniforms." Then I realized your often detailed descriptions are based on the newspaper versions--right? The color differences in today's on-line cartoon made their vests distinct enough that they don't come across as the same.
Except for this minor blip, I enjoy very much your observations of the illustrations. You have a keen eye that frequently sends me back to the pics to check my impressions with yours, and to see what I may have missed the first time. I thank you for that.

Ol'Man Keith, you are so right about the colors of the inventor's outfits in the color version of the Jumble--I was working with my black and white clipping from the newspaper. Thank you so much for your kind comment on my remarks about the cartoons. I feel pretty lame compared to your clever puns and comments and Owen's and Sandyanon's and Wilbur's contributions, that I'm flattered that you enjoy seeing them. You've made my evening!
