Today’s Jumble haiku:
(My favorite cop show stars Nathan Fillion on ABC. It adds humor and personality to an insider’s view of police procedurals.
These are cops who ride in cars they call “shops” and don’t just walk beats and…)

I enjoy Rookie
weekly TV plights, true tales,
a crest in pop polls!

McConaghy had a noble past,
Their coat of arms proclaimed.
The crest a helmet steadfast,
The charges aptly framed.

The motto, "Above All, Truth",
Was a guide for warrior rookies,
Unblooded clansmen youths,
Who'd someday hold the keys.

The clan would stick together
Bound by blood and loyalty!
No plight would daunt them ever,
Not the clan McConaghy!

Ab ovo is a Latin phrase, meaning "from the egg".
From the most nascent stirrings one could peg.
See the cracking shell,
Hope that all goes well,
No longer below the calcium ceiling of the egg!

Your “ab ovo” piece, Owen,
cannot help but remind me of the unfortunate end of those 2 eggs in the nest near Big Bear.
“Jackie,” the eagle mother, has devoted nearly two months to protecting the offspring she shares with father “Shadow.”
She has withstood rain and storms to shelter them, keeping them warm and dry despite historically frigid weather.
But it is now ten days past the “due date” for hatching, so experts have given up hope.
Jackie and Shadow are young and have years to try again.

Together in Sickness and in Health

It’s a rookie mistake
To think plighting one’s troth
Will one’s marriage make,
Or hold an alliance aloft.
A union above the rest
Will have endurance at the crest.
It’s easy to begin,
Harder through thick and thin.

OMK- we went different directions today. It’s funny how adapting the title brings up different ideas.
Once again, you have included all the J words in a tight, interesting haiku.

Owen- I am impressed by the clan McConaghy! True to their roots, they adhere to their tradition with crest, motto, coat of arms. But most importantly, they look out for each other.

And then, you neatly include the Wordle in a beautiful nature poem.
I had to look up OMK’s reference to the eagles. I read some of the story (the cams are inactive at the moment). Nature can be cruel, but the inbred instincts continue. Jackie and Shadow could be a bird example of my poem’s “through thick and thin”.

"Parenting"

The boy was a rookie at best
and still faced many a test,
like learning to tell the truth,
and to never be uncouth,
and to bravely confront each new crest.

Each challenge was a plight
and he knew he had to get it right.
His parents told him they'd all stick together
in every crisis, in all kinds of weather--
and so the boy remains hopeful and bright.

Bravo, CanadianEh, on your “Together” piece.

I like how you connect the union of Jackie and Shadow to your poetic warning of the trials of marriage.
Yes, Nature can prove cruel, but she also endows such creatures with a quiet stoicism, an ability to absorb and accept wounds like the failure of eggs and move on.
Humans generally have a hard time with this lesson. They often need to work with their partners to find their way through deep disappointments.

Misty, your stanzas on “Parenting” offer a fine model of form and content.
The way your couplets are capped with a reversion to the “A” rhyme is a gentle reminder of the family circle.
And within the poem, you present practical lessons for the new member of that circle to learn. A fine piece all around.

BTW, the reveal in the Wordle poem is in the last line "no longer below". Ab ovo was sort of a hint to the hint.

[Chet and Lois are having some me time]
"A year ago we plighted our troth and we are together still.
You knew me as a rookie fresh to the Halls looking to instill
New hope and a new way of life and you stuck it out. Truth is
We're at the crest now , ready for vows, the result of a complete osmosis

Yep, WC ~ C&L must be “ready for vows”!
License in hand? Do they need blood tests? Is her gown all set?
I believe they were aiming for nuptials on or about St. Patrick’s Day, yes?

Ol' Man Keith, I haven't watched "The Rookie" yet, but your supportive haiku makes me want to give it a try. And thank you for the very kind response to my verse--much appreciated.

Owen, what a generous tribute to the McConaghy clan. Hope they'll do everything to continue to deserve it.

CanadianEh!, excellent advice to young people on the verge of plighting their troth. Hope they take your advice and evaluate their decision carefully.

Wilbur, Chet and Lois would make a wonderful role model for all those young people on the verge of commitment.

Thank you all for your kind comments, and for all the great advice you offered everybody on everything today. Should we be opening an Advice web site?
