Todayโs Jumble haiku:
(From the special legacy of Jack the Ripper, hereโs a bit of theโฆ)
โHest of โRipโโs Storyโ
A soapy throat makes
knife access slide. Icier
blades slice easily.

Eden's vicinity Eve roved yearly
Meeting each mammal and birdy.
But a snake in the grass
Brought the end to pass.
The beginning that started so universally!
In a none to distant past,
When all cussers were outcast,
Any swear word from the throat
Was washed out with lye soap!
Cursers were viewed with icy stares.
They were not welcome anywheres,
Except in dives of low repute
Where access was in dispute.
Blue language was deemed a sin
That proper folk didn't engage in.
Taking the Lord's name in vain
Was a sure asocial bane.
Censors rest, such probity
Is now consigned to history!
Bot starter is no help today.

"Mystery Recipe"
The chef's desserts were pricier
with ice cream that was icier,
yet soothed an aching throat
with soapy comfort all did note.
The recipe one had to guess
because he offered no access,
and restaurants still support a quest,
reluctant to let their curiosity rest.
So that icier cream remains a mystery,
that will persist throughout history.
Misty's chef's recipe is indeed a mystery--a desert that can make ice cream even icier than it customarily is!
We are asked to imagine a treat that soothes as if a "soapy comfort."
It may not seem very tasty, especially if acting like Owen's old anti-cursing punishment, but it should serve to "cleanse the palate" like a sorbet between courses.
Owen's poem is a timely one. In my final years of teaching, I noticed my undergrad students using more profanity more often--and indiscriminately in public settings--than we were ever accustomed to.
This was echoed in movies and in the TV series available via home streaming (not on public airwaves).
I am still not used to it.
I am bingeing Succession now and think I flinch 2 or 3 times a minute.

Oh dear, rather sad offerings for a Saturday. Took me a minute to realize that your haiku described a Jack the Ripper murder, Old Man Keith. Guess the 'soapy' 'throat Jumble words inspired that. Hope we'll get a cheerier Jumble tomorrow.
Owen, your first Eve verse started out so cheerfully, until the snake surfaced. And, okay, I guess it is good that cursing is tolerated better these days, although I'm not a fan. Glad that you seem to feel that way too, OMK.
On the other hand, I bet my sentimental cheery stuff gets a little annoying too, every now and then. Maybe I should try thinking a little darker next week too. But not tomorrow--it's Sunday, after all.
Oops! Tomorrow is Saturday, isn't it? I've had such a busy, crazy day today, I can't think straight. So who knows what my poetic mood will be like tomorrow?
