Today’s Jumble haiku:
(Like many ball players, the relief pitcher attributes his success to his faith in the Lord.
But now, as the O.T. Innings stretch on, he worries that his ebbing energy is a sign that his trust in the Divine isn’t sufficient.
He feels he is on his own, that only so far… only up to now has…)

Gog Done It
In the ninth inning of a World Series’ game,
He was lucky to be granted an at-bat.
Determined to expend his energy there at,
And make himself a name,
Gog slammed that ball beyond the wall,
But was too woozy to run at all.
Thanks Owen. I got the Orijinz in 26 seconds (about the time it took me to key in the letters). Your poem was a great clue, especially the last line.
OMK- yes, it can seem odd when players on opposing teams pray to win. How does God decide whose prayer to answer? Better to pray to play your best and may the best team win (and the loser be a good sport). Your poor woozy pitcher needs the coach to call in a relief pitcher.
I had a woozy batter (and had to resort to giving him a little-used Old Testament name and bad grammar for the Spooner attempt).
Misty has plenty of clues to get the W today. She won’t need much good fortune.
"Helpful Help"
The player had gotten a grant
but didn't feel well and started to pant.
His head felt sore and woozy,
not a good time to be choosy.
So in the end he did expend
fees to have a nurse him attend.
She did perform dog-gone well,
and the player recovered from his spell.
At his next game he won an inning,
and thanked the nurse for helping his winning.
Misty - I smiled at the nurse who performed “dog-gone well”. I haven’t heard that expression in a long time. But it seems that she earned her fees, and got that woozy player (with a grant on the line) all healed up in time for the next game. The physios, massage staff, and other medical people are a very important, and often overlooked, part of the team in any sport.
Yes, I believe that WC would have created an extraordinary offering with today’s J words. Chet and Lois would have enjoyed an outing to the ball game.
CEh! ~I have wondered the same thing about appeals to heaven from opposing teams. But as a nontheist, (not worried about a personal god) it hasn't really troubled me. I just reckon it gives each praying player something to focus on, to keep their concentration from wandering.
I know that some coaches try to steer younger players to pray as you suggest, that each man does his best, and the divine should be sure that the more deserving team wins.
Interesting that I went with the pitcher today, and you the batter. Does that say something about our poetic styles?

Your W surprises me. I don't mean that in a derogatory way, but truly as an expression of awe at your search for a relatively ordinary word. What happened there?
Misty ~ Yes, I've gotta add my smile to "dog-gone well" as the catch phrase of the day. I was inspired to check its etymology. Seems to be an early 1800s substitute for "God damn it."
How convenient English is for switching god and dog!
It is sometimes hard to know which of the two should take greater offense...
That nurse is surely the savior of the day. I hope her player won more than a single inning. Unless...

Nice to have you give us a verse about Daniel Boone. I didn't know that he explored much of Kentucky. I just looked him up, and gather that Kentucky was the major ground of his activities. And the name of the state certainly helped with the solution of your verse, I was fortunate to discover.
Owen, so glad you were lucky to recover from your fall after tripping over that poor black cat. And you're right: we need at least one good friend to have a good life. Although, I'd say having more than one is even better. And on this blog, we're all lucky to have more than one!
CanadianEh!, I have never heard of GOG and looked it up. At first it looked as though it was a digital distribution site (whatever that is?), but then it turns out that GOG appeared in the bible as an individual in the Alexander Romances (whatever they are?). Well, okay, I looked them up and they appear to deal with Alexander the Great and there are English versions, Hebrew versions, Syrian versions, Slavonic versions and many more. At this point I stopped my research.
Sorry Gog didn't do well in the World Series.
Misty- Gog is an obscure Old Testament name. “ Gog and Magog, a figure (or two figures) mentioned in the Hebrew Bible in Ezekiel 38 and 39, and variously identified by later writers with Satan or certain hostile nations.” per Wikipedia
I was desperate for that title.
OMK- re my Wordle. I started with one of your old favourites, Adieu. When that gave me the U, I reasoned that perhaps we had a rare QU word, and I entered Quote. That was not to be, but at least I had the location of the U. I then thought of Sunny, and that gave me the U and the Y. Can you believe how many words have that combo? I went with Curvy, then Gucky, and finally Lucky. Phew. But I could have timed out if I had entered Mucky or Ducky.
