When the Internet first burst upon the scene
None realized what a sea change it would mean.
Communication could be made so very fast
But that was a foretaste of what would come to pass.

Bulletin Boards at first, then e-Mail Lists, then Forums.
Broadcasting collectives of all sorts began to form.
Great strides in informing, but casualties on the ground.
Feisty trolls assailed decorum, courtesy was not found.

Conversation changed, became clipped and snarky.
Not everything was honest, so much was malarkey!
The change wasn't just a tweak, it was an overhaul,
In some ways an improvement, but tragic over-all!

Thought-provoking poem, Owen, thank you. Yes, it's a long way from olden days when you had to be looking at someone to talk with them. Anonymity is definitely a mixed blessing. I think ultimately we'll be able to deal succesfully with the problems the internet brings, but it'll be a hard task.

Okay, soapbox put away.

This Monday jumble was not at all difficult. The clues unscrambled easily, and once I saw what the fiirst word of the solution could be, the punny second word popped out.

I slept on this one, and my 'ol walnut solved it for me. Dunno that I should take any credit.
A fine poem, Owen. I sure hope the ending isn't "tragic over-all," but we'll find out. Not me personally but... well, you know.

Sad poem, Owen--but, hey, without the Internet we wouldn't be here able to chat with each other all across the country every day even though we've never met in person. I think that's pretty wonderful, especially for folks like me who don't get out all that much.

But I loved the way you worked all the Jumble answers, including the solution, into your poem. Terrific! I too got all the items in this one without any problems, and the clever solution popped right up. Thanks, David and Jeff.

I got this quickly too . I did lay out the letters then it was obvious

Owen has probably noticed the pesky troll who now opines under clever anon-names. In the CC.

Owen, I grew up with social media from the early 80s on . We created a Sports bar at my company and harangued accordingly
