Erato, Muse of Lyric Poems, was sitting in a funk.
Ideas were coming -- not. Her Muse-ship nearly sunk.
Thalia, Muse of Comedy, came by to cheer her up.
Evaporate her gloomy mood, invite her out to sup.

Thalia told her lots of jokes, the best she had to offer.
Erato barely cracked a smile, the effort was a bother.
So Thalia tried another tack, to have her talk it out.
Erato told her of the shifts that first had made her pout,

Blank verse was bad, free verse was worse, but still,
Rap had rhyme and rhythm, but made her want to kill!
Each took a facet of the art, and twisted it perversely.
Each "improvement" hailed, affected her inversely.

And now a final insult, from her own weary mind.
Inspiration wouldn't come, to pass to poet-kind.
No original suggestions of subjects to explore.
Her font of fantasy was the origin of much lore.

Thalia sat politely to hear her sister's screed,
Urged that their brother had what she did need.
A visit to their brother helped Erato to renew --
Bullwinkle J., the Moose of Whatsamatta U.!

On the one hand, Owen, I think Erato must be your alter ego and I want to commiserate with you on your writer's block. On the other hand, you wrote such a free-flowing, creative poem that you can't possibly have writer's block. And with the twist at the end, too; Bullwinkle can't actually be your poetic inspiration, can he?

Oh well, as to the jumble -- it didn't offer me lots of problems, though I did go down a dead end at first by choosing the wrong center word for the solution. And I had to stare at clue four awhile after I rejected the gerund. But it all came together pretty quickly.

I have to pick one nit: the creators really don't know how to spell amenities???

Sandy: I just added a meme to the top of this page. It's one I made myself a few years ago. Even looks a tad like me.

Owen, your artistic vibes are sizzling today . Great poem.

I had the four but lots of trouble completing the riddle . The middle two letters were not OF .

Then after xwording* I decided to come here and bingo, I got it.

I knew a girl in fifth grade named THALIA . She was the Czar. She hated me because I was new and wouldn't bow.

Thank you, thank you Owen, for a great poem, which helped me get the fourth Jumble word, which eluded me. But I still had trouble with the solution until Wilbur made me see that I had to get rid of OF, and then it all fell into place. That gave me a good Wednesday, with a good puzzle, sudoku, kenken, and now Jumble. Thanks, everybody!

Thank you so much for getting rid of that, Owen. Hope nobody else finds the way here to post an ad.

Owen, I hope you don't mind, but I downloaded your meme; I think it's very clever. If you'd rather I didn't keep it, just say so and I'll toss it.
