They march to the horizon, giant robotic hordes
Skeletal pylons bearing power for their lords!
Wires wrapped in fabric, insulated by the air,
So high above ground that the trees don't care!

But the Santa Ana winds are aghast at invasion!
The clear cut thru the forest is a depredation!
So the winds whip the wires, tear them free,
To spark raging fires, birthed by electricity!

To impede the wanton winds, power was shut off.
Forest fires foiled, again the winds wage wroth!
Was it legal to deprive so many citizens of light?
Let them sue Santa Ana! Wind wrought their blight!

Keith: When Oliver Twist tried to escape by getting his master drunk, what did he do?

He probably aneled Fagan, if he wanted the full-on spooner.
(I wonder if he shouldn't have preceded with "Curses!")

I had in mind just oiled . Sort of a half-spoonerism, since only onelead was switched instead of both, but still countable since both words were significantly changed. aneled wasn't a word I was aware of, so you had me on that!

I got all four Jumble words this morning, but was not totally sure about the second one, even though it worked with the solution. So it's always a blessing to get your clever morning poems, Owen, and this one nicely confirmed everything today. I don't know much about fencing, but it all worked out--except for the poor dude who got defeated once more. Let's hope he has a better weekend.

owen ~ Not to worry. But this is why it is so difficult to match spooners to rhymes. Your "oiled" would have done that--except of course that "Fagan" is usually pronounced with a wrong (for our purposes) accent.

I was on a different track before we went towards the spoonerism. Here's where I was heading:
The pastor was afflicted with a stammer that affected his ability to guide his congregation’s responses, leading sadly to many a spoiled amen.

Apologies for the lower case "O," Owen! That got away from me.

Your poem is fun. Living in the path of the Santa Anas (along with Misty and other SoCal colleagues), I respect their power and wrath. PG&E and SCE would love to so anthropomorphize them that the gales could be brought to court.
But when those companies get around to protecting and burying their power lines, I think we will all be happier--those who fear fire AND those who value light!

The four J's went fast but the solution foiled me again. I was trying all sorts of combinations. I had two"I"s to work with but kept thinking of ALONG and an "ing" ending for #1.

Then the Riddle-Solution hit me.

That must have been a hairy, hoary time for you so-cals*. A good poetic rendition.

OMK, did you ever get involved in that "Spooner" play? Is it ever reenacted?

I'd guess someone would come up with a whole coterie of new Spoonerisms.

I think I mentioned my idea for an Ivanhoe musical. Now that Hamilton has rewritten the unwritten rules of stage I'm guessing having the jousting action broadcast in closed circuit TV wouldn't be any worse.

Oh yeah, Owen had a late post. I'll look it up and respond

Oh yeah. No. I just came up while posting with random 3 digit numbers and added them on Google. Just like I did with Phil when he was six*.

He simply had a trick taught him by his first grade teacher of adding large numbers quickly.

Now, when we were standing next to Boise Rock in NH and I gave a quiz to Phil and his buddies on State Capitals I stumped even the A student on "Capital of Idaho"?

Phil knew of course because we traveled through the White Mountains all the time.

So... I wasn't averse to cheating.

*I recall "six" because of the teacher. Same teacher that picked him up off the ground and slammed him against the blackboard. Hell, she was only human.

* if "So-cals is good enough for Google spell check I guess it's okay vernacular, n'est-ce pas?
