The opening poem contains all the words (or variations of them) from today's Jumble.

Nancy had been a nanny since the year she had been built,
An android with compassion for her charges, to the hilt.
Steel bones and nylon muscles made her strong when needed,
Fluffy foam made her skin so soft, when an infant kneaded.

More petite than an adult, she was the right size for a child.
Programmed slow to anger, her reproofs were always mild.
She had a long life span that had her last for generations,
As families grew smaller, needing less her ministrations.

Then came the plagues, and she was needed as a nurse.
Caring for the needs of the few humans left on Earth.
Human memories grew foggy, but Nancy told the bedtime tales
Of the noble race that birthed the androids' perfect selves.

I'm going to whine a bit, but do it here where it's more private, even tho it's about the CC. As I write this, there have been 8 posters besides myself. Now I know not everyone reads or enjoys my l'icks, but of those 8, 4 have mentioned CLOWN NOSE, and in a way that makes it obvious they didn't read my post on it nor click the prominent link I had, even though it was colored and (as Keith has requested) in bold type. I feel invisible and non-existent.

I read a story about a robot nanny just yesterday, which inspired today's poem. The robot in the story, tho, was a product of planned obsolescence, not one destined to outlive humanity as the one in my story seems to be doing. If you like SF short stories, it's at Slate Future Tense.

Sorry I didn't comment on your poems right away, Owen--I did, and always, enjoy them. And I love the one about Nancy, the nanny, you posted here.

I got all four words of the Jumble without a bit of trouble. But I tried and tried to get the solution and it just didn't come--and I finally had to look it up. Then, of course, it was pretty obvious. Colorful and cute cartoon, and I found it neat that the little girl's tiny camera is able to reflect the bridge.

I came here first. It looks like BLOWN NOSE didn't work. I stopped my alphabet run too soon.

Along with entertaining poems we often learn something new from Owen's poems.

Misty, did you jot down all the letters and try to find any four letter words.

The last word popped out for me. The four J's were as easy as it comes.

Also, this is a good forum to express oneself. I'd feel more comfortable doing it here too. We sure have the byte space.

The jumble clues were easy, but I got hung up for awhile on the solution because I kept wanting "plan". Then it seemed so obvious when I saw the actual solution words pop out at me.

Owen, I always do the crossword and then read the posts on CC, definitely including yours, but rarely comment on anything. As Wilbur said, this is a more comfortable place. I got the clown nose idea after reading the commentary, and checked out the picture you posted

I did so enjoy your poem today on this site too. I've read other stories about humans losing out to AI, some quite scarily plausible. Read the story about Naneen with pleasure; Shristi needs a new friend more than a new nanny, I think. I do wonder if Naneen will still be able to care for Shristi in her old age.

Sorry, all.
I haven't been to the Corner. I was just stopping by to say I'll be hit and miss this football weekend, but in a quick read I see I may be missing an important topic. I am not sure what CLOWN NOSE is all about, Owen, but if it continues to be a topic you'd like us to weigh in on, I will do my best when I come back.

Wilbur, I jotted down all the letters and came up with lots of words like GOAL, PAGE, FLIP, SAGE, PIES, FAIL, PILE, SNAG, LOAF, LOAN, GILL, SNIP, FANG, SANG, GAPE, SILL, and many more. But none of them fit the cartoon as a part of a possible solution.

Now that my 49ers have dominated the Vikings, I can turn my attention to today's Jumble.
My spirits are high, glad to see my hometown team back in fine fettle. But I see that my colleagues have covered all the bases. All that's left for me is to try my rhyme game.

So here goes:
I understand some ardent activists for women's rights think the term 'wife' is derogatory. But I have a dear friend who believes passionately that they are just wrong. "'Wife' can be a perfectly fine title," she says. My own Missus agrees!
