The opening poem contains all the words (or variations of them) from today's Jumble.

This jumble solution might inspire a Raymond Chandler opus.
My take:
He was so devoted to the truth that the very thought of mendacity left him aghast. "Could lies ever be justified in a truly civil society," he wondered.

The thing about my girl friend Holly,
She hates to be thought a Polly-
Anna. She sees herself as a tomboy.
Loves to tussle, hates to be coy.
To convention she won't be bound.
At tea parties she won't be found.
No, she'd rather be hawking loogies,
Wearing jeans and chomping hoagies!
She wants to be just another guy.
That "feminine" stuff she doesn't buy.
Will it last, or someday will Holly
Say goodby to such un-girl-like folly?
Fun Holly poem, Owen, found it really jolly. Got all the Jumble words though I had to work a bit to get the fourth one. But the cute theme jumped right up, and I liked your gloss on it, Ol'Man Keith. The cartoon is a total delight with all the variations of gender, color, outfits, hair-dos, and the nearly empty shelves. I too wish that store would stay open a little longer so that the folks wouldn't have to say farewell.
A neat odic poem,
Dear Master Owen.
I like your gal, Holly,
She's my type, by golly!

Don't crunch your teeth,
Ol'Man Keith,
If liking Holly
Is just a folly.
Oh, boy, poets galore. I had the four J's but the riddle-solution eluded me. Then I showed it to Phillip and between the two of us we grok'ed it. I can use that term freely now since most of the CC gang never heard of it.
Misty, what's the name of the store? eg what's sold there? And yes
When I shopped for books and baubles
My fav was Barnes and Nobles
Alas on-line became the buying venue
To survive they offered the Starbucks menu
Folk would meander with books to no purpose
Then log into Amazon to purchase
What to do with these flits and old fogeys
Eureka, we'll start selling HOAGIES

Btw, Phillip is dyslexic so reading the sign backwards was duck soup for him. Btw, Betsy was thinking of raising chickens until some Netizen said "DUCKS my good woman, Ducks.
Apparently, they lay eggs galore
