|| || ditto, gizmo, offend, lesson, longed to do it.

The opening poem contains all the words (or variations of them) from today's Jumble.

How he longed to do it, but he knew it would offend.
Still, it would teach a lesson, and that was a worthy end.
So he brought out the gizmo, the ditto copier machine,
And started to crank out copies of a science fiction fanzine!

He filled it with outrageous stuff on which the trolls thrive --
Spoilers (only Ripley and the cat survive!)
Blasphemy (Jar-Jar Binks was really very clever!)
And pornography (Samwise was Frodo's secret lover!)

I got a kick out of this poem. Although he wants to fill his fanzine with all sorts of "adult" stuff, he's animated by the spirit of the "mean widdle kid." It's all sure to come crashing down on him.

FLN, Misty ~ what a coincidence, that our marriage history is so alike. I am sorry I didn't know your husband. Maybe in our younger years we might have enjoyed each other's company.
And from the Corner: The Outsider is on HBO with first runs on Sundays. They have regular re-runs, so it's easy to catch up.

And for today:
Sister Suzie needed a siesta, a suspension from selling sea shells.
I offered to tend the shell concession while she napped. When she didn't return after two hours, my friends urged me to hang a "Closed" sign and leave. But I would have wronged Sue to quit, so I said,
"She serves society, so we should suffer her to savor some sleep, shouldn't we?"

And,
"We shall re-visit the issue should she snore..."

I thought "on to it" was the ending. So the simple first word eluded me.
Not SAM and Frodo but perhaps Gandalf's wizardry - or should I say "wand" had other applications.

Grok'ing the Z word took a bit of thinking. For some reason the golf cart is parked alongside the cart path and she shot from the path itself. Misty likes illustration comments.

Speaking of... I've got to go back and check out the FLN. But yes, doesn't Misty seem like someone we would have been best buds with.

Just to get a better handle on the enigmatic Mr Joyce. I'm on Roku now and there was a series on great writers and naturally Joyce was mentioned.

I learned he spent time in Trieste before hobnobbing with Papa, Gertrude and Ezra in Paris. And of course, Fitzgerald .

A roundabout conversation took place because someone mentioned War and Peace("boring!) and I mentioned that I'd read it twice. But added, the movie was indeed very boring.

So, what movies were faithful to the book? He said "Great Gatsby".

WC (not so terse today)

W.C. ~ I understand the movie of Little Women is quite faithful.
The only question is: Which one?

Upon reflection, I think it harder to say, "We shall re-visit the issue should Sue snore."
Try them & see.

My goodness, so much commentary to deal with.

But first, I enjoyed your poem, Owen. You usually put the solution in the last line, so a surprise to see it very early on! And there were all the Jumble words, as usual, built into an interesting plot!

Ol'Man Keith, why do I think Sister Suzie sold sea shells by the seashore? Was it because she snored?

Thank you for pointing out the golf playing oddity in the Jumble cartoon, Wilbur--I did not notice that this morning.

And Joyce and Trieste--I will be attending the Joyce Conference in June (Bloomsday) in Trieste this year (thanks to my friend Barbara, who will accompany me on that long journey). Joyce taught English in Trieste from 1904 to 1914, but had to move his family to neutral Switzerland during World War I. They returned to Trieste after the war but found it very different under Italian rule, and so moved to Paris at the suggestion of Ezra Pound.

Enough Joyce. Fun Jumble and fun commentaries from all of you.

Can't let the mentions of Trieste go by w/o noting it as a favorite city of mine. It is a relatively small town with a lot of history. The Castello di Miramare is nearby, a lovely Edenic palace that served as one of the homes of Maximilian, Emperor of Mexico. I often wondered if he hadn't wished himself back there as he faced the firing squad.

Ol'Man Keith, so nice to hear you like Trieste too! I'll drink a toast to you when I'm there in June.
