โStormy?โ
โTwas a proven fact, she could surely attract
any boy with one hug, even a shrug.
But a darker track, one lacking in tact,
will be found to await any guy sheโll first mate,
but then drug,
blackmail,
or mug.

And, more succinctly, this โฆ
Todayโs Jumble haiku:
(Valerie was a regular beauty contestant, aware of all the rules. If she didnโt care for the dimensions being called out, she would simply shimmy a bit and call for the measure to be double checked. In this way, she could adjust things by subtlyโฆ )
โShaking Tapeโ
One of Valโs darker
skills, awaiting her proven
shrugs, lay in inches.

South we went to seek it out
West we sought, began to doubt.
East would follow,
Except just as hollow.
Perhaps to the North we'll find a route.
Some people say I'm a prudent waiter,
Others that I'm just a procrastinator.
Early adoption isn't my style.
I want to see it proven for a while.
They say it's the greatest thing since sliced bread.
I just shrug and shake my head.
They say I need to get it today.
I say I'll see, if it's on my way.
Sometimes they say, on a darker tack,
It's something I'll suffer for the lack.
I may try harder to keep up to date,
More likely I'll just tempt my fate.
Around me the future is taking shape.
It's welcome to continue, but I'll just wait.
Canadian comedian Red Green found fame with his โhandymanโs secret weaponโ. Amateurs using it might have to Shake It Off.
Shaking Tape
Red Green has proven
That the easiest fix for men
Without a wait for glue to dry
Or creating a mess to sweep
Under a plush rug so deep
Is the starker solution to try;
Good old duct tape to apply.
OMK- that Stormy poem is Darker? Was that a human female or a black widow spider that turned on her mate?
We matched titles with your haiku (what else could be done!), but went in different directions - duct tape vs. Measuring tape. I smiled at Valโs shimmy shrug.
FLN- thanks for your comments about Sir Toby, and relating your personal experience.
Owen- I see the acrostic W! And your J poem is a brilliant use of all the words. I too am a person who likes to see something that has proven its worth, rather than jump in at the very beginning. I am too cautious to me a good innovator.
"Family Love"
When our aunt became ill with a bug
we didn't shrug, but gave her a hug.
It was difficult to await
a darker outcome to her state.
But when her treatment began to take shape,
we foresaw a much better fate.
Her courage had proven her strong,
and we now cheered her health with a song.
CEh!
Enjoyed reading your Red Green piece. I agree totally with your/his recommendation of duct tape. My enthusiasm for this "secret weapon" peaked last year when I "fixed" a few items around the house. And then ordered more tape.
But I learned it is a long time between projects. Now I have six unopened rolls of duct tape sitting in the garage.
BTW, I thought your title was brilliant!
Misty ~ A near-limerick, with a neat batch of couplets.
Your verse shows the power of love as a healing agent. With hugging as a cure for the bug, we cheer the outcome for your aunt.
Now, you need only wait another week before the rest of the family comes down with her darker "state."
An alternate title to "Family Love" might serve to emphasize its message of "Social Distance."

Not to leave Owen out, I want to say how much I enjoy his humorous pieces. Today's longer poem is no exception.
The shorter piece is an acrostic that adheres to my admonition to make a clean s_____!

Delightful comments all around from everyone. Once again, many thanks!
Ol' Man Keith, did Valery's shimmy win her the beauty contest?
Owen, hope you find your route to the North, even if you are a bit of a procrastinator.
CanadianEh!, love how you twist those Jumble solutions around. Hope your project has taken shape with that shaking tape.
Thank you for the kind comment on my verse, OMK: I think we're all safe because we all wore a mask when we gave our aunt a hug.
Misty ~ Absolutely. And not only this contest, but this one caps seven previous pageants, which she either won or placed in the top three. You are speaking of her majesty, the Queen of St. Angeloโs Bingo Night, aka Miss Sheet Metal Rivets as well as Miss Zanja Agua!
Sheโs already a finalist in two more.
Good thing about the masks. Donโt listen to those anti-maskers. Theyโll just say youโre lucky.
