Today’s Jumble haiku:
(Our quarterback is chicken. Ever since he got banged up last week, he’s been making Lee, our only healthy running back, do all the work. In every play so far today, he has demanded the ball be out of his hands right away.
He told Lee he won’t be “caught dead” with the #*@! thing!
Huddle after huddle, over and over, he would…)

Order Lee!”

Our yellow QB
called for Lee-carries in ALL
prior huddles. Sheesh…

The fire started with a gush.
Fire fighters were there in a rush!
Yellow slickers repelling water,
An intrepid one climbed the ladder!

Carried from the second floor
Susan feared she'd live no more.
An ambulance took her fast away,
As E. M. T. s saved the day!

Doctor and nurses, in a huddle,
Worked to heal her breathing trouble.
Prior, in the ambulance
Oxygen had been intense.

In an orderly order, first responders
Saving lives, now adding hers.

We don't care what ruse you use.
To turn our skills on, we refuse.
We'll stay on strike
Till our pay you hike,
This is why we pay our union dues!

Owen ~ You paint a vivid fire scene, naturally followed by the hospital.
I was briefly reminded of an old girlfriend (not old in years, but in our time together) who became a certified EMT & is maybe rescuing Susans to this day.
Yay for 1st responders!
Your limerick is neat & non-specific enough to serve as a labor anthem.

WC ~ Your ear for French names reminds me that I needn’t go as far afield as “Anouilh” to find the phonetic equivalent to today’s Wordle.
Plain ol’ “Henri” servira assez bien.

Sometimes we need to do something completely out of character to get out of our usual rut and revitalize our spirits.

Normally Orderly?

The cure for a case of ennui?
Walk out in the rain with glee.
Ignore those who huddle,
Splash through that puddle,
Carry umbrella bright yellow,
To make you feel mellow,
Forget prior cares,
Be one who dares.

“Lord love a duck”!

"Good Deeds"

The prior was orderly and kind
and did his best the homeless to mind.
It was sad to find many huddle
outdoors, and, in rain, in a puddle.
He was never willing to tarry
and did quickly food to them carry.
He wore a scarf that was bright and yellow,
and the poor thought him a good fellow.
He did his best to calm all their fear,
and, in response, they did him cheer.

Re Wordle today: I realized that the W over the last few days has been using lesser-used words and letters. I started with an off-the-wall guess (a synonym for speedy), and was rewarded with two letters. Then I decided to ____ some different data, and was rewarded again. Having the second last letter narrowed down the choices.
Owen has hidden the W too well for me (cryptic?), but you could go for it from WC and OMK’s clues, Misty.

OMK- what a back story for your interesting haiku. And I noted a CSO to Jayce with Sheesh!?

Owen - you paint a vivid picture of the daily work of EMTs and medical workers, each with their job to do in saving the patient. Susan is a fortunate lady to be so well cared for and with good recovery prospects.

Misty- what a dedicated prior you describe, with his heart for helping the homeless. My poem with its line about ignoring those who huddle sounds cruel, but I was thinking of those privileged folks who hunch their way through their travels on a rainy day and complain. The homeless have good reason to hunch - and maybe no umbrellas either. Your prior endeavours to brighten their day, and serve both their physical and emotional needs. Good man.

My W clue today, say the words bracketing the comma.

Woohoo! Woohoo! OMK's clue helped me get today's Wordle. Thank you, thank you.

Later I saw that CanadianEh! gave us an even more explicit one. Glad I didn't see it until after I got the W, but I loved your verse! (more than a duck). And thank you, so much, for your very kind comments on mine.

Owen, you too gave us some wild rhymes, like 'ambulance'/'intense' and 'responders'/'hers'. Totally enjoyed your poem.

Good work Misty. Yes, I did leave the W rather exposed, didn’t I. But think of all the rhyming possibilities.

Owen- now I see it. Great disguise.

Thanks, CEh, for mentioning my backstory. It did require some real effort.
Your poem offers neat ways to jump-start a being from today’s Wordle state. Much appreciated.
And I do love that old expression re. the Lord and duck-loving!

Misty ~ Your Prior is certainly a decent chap.
I’ll bet the poor & destitute perked up whenever they spotted his yellow brightness!

“on, we,” eh?!
Neat, Owen, but impossible as a hint. Those seeking legit help would need the answer in advance.

But for insiders (only), fair game…

My daily kudo goes to C-eh. Owen I found it: on, we. And...
I heard a fellow share about being in a bar and the following happened

5/6/21
Seedy,Filly,Social,Exodus;Sole Sole
—----------
It was a seedy joint but Chester often went there
They did have a band and Chet listened while nursing his beer
Chet was not the social type, cared not for the fillies
"Talking to girls is not my thing, it gives me the willies."

And when the band had played its final note
And 'Last Call' was blinking and flashing on the tote
There was a mass exodus of the singles crowd into the night
The sole remaining patron was Chet, a forlorn, lonely sight
********
Fri 5/7/21
Upend,Ounce,Hairdo, Stigma;Pouring in
--------
Poor me, pour me another drink, was Chester's mantra
Play something on the jukebox. Orbison not Sinatra
How many ounces he'd had tonight ? Who's counting?
The better question. For what was his life amounting?

Despondent, he questioned just what did his life avail?
And who's the gal with the bouffant hairdo drinking ginger ale.
He never dreamed that she'd be the one to upend his dreary life
What she said to him cut to the core like a knife

"Do you have the courage to quit this lowly bar?
Come to an AA Meeting with me, don't fear the stigma".

Wilbur Charles said...

His account was practically identical to Chet's. I can't wait to read those lines to him

Then again if there's one thing people hate worse than xwotalk it's poetry
