Todayโs Jumble haiku:
(Princeton Universityโs Confederate traditions are carried on secretly in its fraternal organizations.
It is said that Chi Sigma Alpha requires its pledges to imbibe wine mixed with a little blood [whose?] from a drinking cup they claim was used by Lincolnโs assassin while holed up in Garretโs Barn before he was shot to deathโฆ)
โMikeโs Preamble to (Being Accepted)โ

Mike drink from Boothโs goblet to
affirm heโs โno Yank.โ

(...Morning came, and wrenched the traveller away
To continue his journey for another day.)
By afternoon they reached a village square
That bid them pause to display their ware.
From their cart came canvas and a frame
For a booth at the edge of the humble plaza.
In curiosity the rustic villagers came
To this faux pavilion for an elite maharaja.
A lone goblet sat on a mantled stand.
Nevin called, "Bring a jar of milk or wine.
Pour a splash in this grail, drink a command,
You will be transported to a better time.
You'll relive the happiest time of your life.
The richer the drink, the longer it will last.
You might be able to spend hours bright,
And affirm your most joyous time past!
(To be continued.)
Impressive! I worked hard with the fragment that I was given.

Have you ever felt like the restaurant might be infested, when you are seated at a
Bite-Me Table
We sat down in the booth,
No elite cafe, thatโs the truth.
A dirty goblet, plate and crumbs,
Sticky spots from the last dinerโs thumbs.
They might be able to wipe and clear,
Or itโs a firm no to eating here!
"Kind Couple"
Betty sold tickets in a booth,
she was polite and never uncouth.
In the process she often did meet
members of the elite.
Betty had a sweet dog as a pet,
and in her booth one day met a vet.
He offered to take her out for a drink
and that evening their goblets they did clink.
Soon the vet asked Betty to affirm
that she'd be willing to work long term
in his lab, where he had a cat.
She said she might be able to do that.
They've now been married for over a year
and Betty holds the vet and his animals dear.
An excellent continuation, Owen.
Nevinโs goblet will surely appeal to all for whom a happy past is worth revisiting.
Very likely an older demographic will be his customer base. The young will be eager to see what lies ahead; their elders know better than that.
Ew, ew, CanadianEh!
Well done, lassie, as to your structural truth,
But ick for planting us in that yucky booth.
Misty ~ One never knows, do oneโฆ?
Betty could hardly have foreseen how a drink & a cat could have led her to wed!
And not just a marriage, but a better job instead!

Hail, fellow Wordlers!
Par for the day, folks,
exactly so for Wilbur, the Maestro, & me.
And we can thank clever Ms. CEh, as her birdie averages us all slightly better than par.

Owen- thank you for the work you put into your offerings here. Magnificent work today, both with the W poem (I love that last line) and your continuing saga with Nevin. You make me work to recognize and appreciate all the intricacies of your poetry.
OMK- I had to LIU re the cartoonist. Canadian disadvantage I guess. Iโm glad to improve our W average.
Your J haiku makes me need to review my American history. What a back story . . . and the titles today required imagination.
Sorry for the Ew factor in mine.
Misty- your poems would be lively fodder for the Womenโs Channel movies. Today we have Betty who moves from a casual drink with the vet, to a steady job, and a marriage where she loves both the animals and her vet husband. My heart is a flutter!
Thank you, CanadianEh!, I liked your and Keith's verses, and Owen's Nevin continuation, and Wilbur's cupcake Wordle--a clever fun day for all of us.
