From Oakland and Fremont they came. From all over the Bay Area--from residential Pacifica and touristy Sausalito and upscale Marin County they came rolling in to San Francisco's trendy Aquatic Park. They were newlyweds and long-marrieds and even a few Tinder swipes, all of them vying for the coveted title of "MODERN MATCH of the BAY"!
A young couple from Emeryville dreamt of winning the first place $70,000 prize. "Then we can afford to move in together!" said the starry-eyed woman. "And buy some nice things."
She already imagined herself picking prim Delft china to go with that darling blue and white apron in her Kitchen Couture catalog...

Well, those are my offerings on this soon-to-be sunny Groundhog Day cum Super Bowl Sunday.
I wonder if our Jumble creators are predicting a real punting flub by Kansas City today? Isn't that the Chiefs' kicker, number 7, Harrison Butker in the cartoon?
I'll be pleased if that comes to pass. I am a lifelong 49ers fan & happy to see them back where they belong--in the top rank of the true American Pastime.
Go 'Niners!!

I went to a sports bar to see my team play,
I wanted to catch the catch of the day.
But the big screen was tuned to a different game,
And so the experience just wasn't the same.

I complained to the manager, that it wasn't my fancy
To watch a game with all the players so nancy.
Furthermore, I had ordered the fish 'n' chips platter,
But the sauce tasted more like ranch dip than tartar!

The cobalt blue plates I found most distressing.
The clash with my blue denim jacket was depressing!
Well he siezed my lapels, and said I should be jailed,
That my carp o' the day of my carp and denim failed!

Sorry to be so late. caught up in some recreational reading, and also had some 'puter problems. Finished the j4 poem a couple hours ago, but just getting it posted now, and haven't even figured out what the j6 will be, so better get to working on it.

To call the country "cyberpunk" might be a bit obscure,
Although all the feudal peasants were cyborgs, to be sure.
But they preferred their hand-tools, plows and hoes.
It was only the knightly class with electric module glows.

Gears and cog-wheel joints made most mules obsolete.
Farmers pushed their plows around with robot feet.
While it weren't forbidden, Don Lockoaty used old Sparky
His battery-powered burro that his neighbors called malarkey!

Even others in his cohort of anti-Luddite energy proponents
Thought that he was guilty of overdoing power components.
Like when Sparky blew a gasket, and commenced to kicking,
And the Don himself was injured, to get it back to ticking!

I solve the 6*6 on Sunday but after the xword. This was a usual slow solve but not grok'ing #2 I went and solved the riddle-solution and had the two letters: H and C. Thus...

Great sequel to the luddites dilemma with robots and old fashioned donkeys.

And oh yeah. Come Spring and a women's thoughts turn to kitchen ware and wear.

Well, I don't know football, so never got this solution, and had trouble with the fourth and sixth word. But neat poem, Owen, many thanks for that. And your gloss to the solution is hilarious, Ol'Man Keith. I've also been meaning to ask you how your wife is doing. She must be so happy to be back home after two days in the hospital.

Well, the j4 was no problem at all. The solution jumped out at me before I even looked at the clues. The solution helped with clues three and four. I thought the pun was really obvious but cute. The poem went right along with the cartoon theme, as how could it not? Enjoyed carp and carp.

J6 was another matter. I had a similar problem to Wilbur's, and took essentially the same route. Knowing that the first solution word had to be a gerund simplified that and then the second solution word was pretty obvious. The two necessary letters led right to the second clue.

Interesting take on the continued cyber story. Really enjoyed the way the solution was worked in.

Thanks for asking, Misty.
Janice is doing well after two days, her 3rd morning at home. Her first day-and-a-half were very painful (thank goodness for opioids in the right situation!), and she is still quite stiff but now able to walk (with a walker).
She says it helps when I massage her legs and feet. Yesterday I wanted to bring her some flowers, but we don't have a lot of choices in our garden in February. I managed to combine some lilacs with flowering Rosemary, backed by a couple of ferns (we always have ferns), and she was very appreciative.
I was hoping we could watch the Super Bowl together, as she is a great fan of the commercials. But I think she'll be more comfortable staying in bed with her iPod, as she continues bingeing Call the Midwife on my recommendation. (I'll tape the commercials for her).

So great to hear that Janice is making progress, and that you are taking such good care of her. Your putting a bouquet of flowers together for her is really sweet. Please keep us posted on her progress, and tell her that we are sending her best wishes.
