Today’s Jumble haiku:
(Frederick was not athletic.
He had other macho things going for him.
Whenever he aspired to help the team, the coach would have to…)

Bench Fred

He was a member
of the Thief’s Circle. He was
clever and drank hard.

FLN- glad you woke up to join us Owen. I found your hidden W in line two.
WC- thanks for explaining your W solving process.

Misty- OMK has giving you great rhymes and clue for today’s W.

"Happy Outcome"

The burglary was brief
and caused the store-owner great grief.
But the police were clever and quick
and figured out the thief's trick.
They arrested him and returned
the stolen money, for which they earned
a bottle of wine with the owner's thanks,
which they opened and cheerfully drank.
She also served them some French bread,
and this experience in December
the police did always happily remember.

Bench Fred

The members of the team agreed,
Time is a thief that begets the need
To find a clever way to retire
Poor Fred, whose batting is so dire.
“Let’s make him coach” their answer came;
They drank to their success with no blame.

OMK- well we both came up with the same title today (what else could we do!). But with more space (plus a W) to work with, I enlarged on poor Fred’s lack of athletic ability (due to aging). But I had the team members drinking, not Fred. Hilarious what we can think up using the same starter words.

Misty, as per her usual, has a happy outcome with French bread and wine as the reward. I hope those policemen were off duty!
Let’s see what Owen creates.

Or maybe WC wants to update Chet and Lois.

Read and enjoyed all your verses and comments, but busy day, and no time to go into detail yet.
But many thanks for great offerings and conversation.

Well,Misty may have a happy outcome for the store owner & the cops (who better NOT be drinking on duty!), but does nobody consider the poor thief?!
He is probably the member of a minority group who grew up lacking all privilege.
His poor education undoubtedly led to a deficiency in critical thinking and therefore an inability to outwit the police.
Poor guy, couldn't win for losing.

CEh! I gather it is commonly assumed that a poor player might become a decent coach. But I wonder how often that is borne out in practice.
Hmm.
Maybe as often as a lousy coach turns into an ace player....

I guess this was another sleepy day for Maestro Owen.

I understand.
Kinda sleepy for me too, 'tho I hadda 'nother medical appointment.

Sorry it was so busy for you, Misty. Today's W clue was tricky, so I will leave it posted, w/o stating the answer, in case you can get to it tomorrow.
