I am very sorry to be the bearer of very sad news. It seems our dear friend "Wilbur Charles" passed away on August 11. His name was Bill Breen.
He was one of my dearest friends on Crossword Corner and we had exchanged many emails over the years.
I got the information from his Facebook page and confirmed it by finding two obituary notices for his passing:

My goodness, what terribly sad and shocking news--that we have lost Wilbur after all this time. I do remember we heard that he was ill, but this is still so terribly sad. My heart goes out to friends and family.

Robert shouted from the roof
that there was not one bit of proof
that any laws had been broken
when at the town meeting he had spoken.
He was aware that citizens diverge,
so it would be helpful their views to merge.
Such a move would give voice to the lowly,
and produce agreements slowly.
What Rob wanted was for conflicts to cease
and for the town citizens to live in peace.
The old wooden wheel kept breaking, and we must come to a decision.
Fork and Spoke
We were on the verge of a discovery,
But needed proof of our theory.
By moving extremely slowly,
And taking the road less travelled,
We got our problem unravelled.

Owen- easy Orijins today. I filled in 16 seconds (I would have gotten it quickly, even without your poem).
But Wordle was harder today, with double of a vowel plus double of an infrequently used letter.
But Misty has enough rhyming clues to get it.
Interesting that it is only one letter different than a J word.
OMK- I enjoyed your haiku (and the back story). We went different directions with the title.

Misty- I have been thinking about “verge” and your use of “diverge” (appropriate to my “fork” and Frost allusion. And I did not read your poem first. Interesting pathways our brains take.
Anyway, I enjoyed your Robert (Rib ) poem. Let’s hope that he is able to live in a peaceful town.
I am so sorry to hear of the death of WC. Very sad.
I will miss his contributions, and any continuation of the Chet and Lois story.
