Walt, the deer hunter, was particular about his venison. He never went for the young bucks, but preferred a stronger, mature chew.
"I'm a wily old forester myself," he would say. "Give me some serious tracking, followed by a naturally aged, sinewy dinner--hart meat!

The elves brought Bilbo back past the dredged bank
Of the creek. They bowed saying "We have you to thank" .
In the fifth hour of the night Bilbo climbed the rope
And resumed the watch. It was his vain hope
That the Arkenstone might bring piece to the warring
Factions, if not by reason perhaps by his imploring.

Then, as the next day began, a party drew close
Lead by Bard and Thranduil asking for peaceful concourse
And there was Gandalf, uncloaked, holding the gem
And Thorin amazed and enraged staring at them.

"How comes it to be that the Heart of the mountain
Is in your possession?". Up piped Bilbo, "Let me explain"
In a heartbeat, Thorin seized the hobbit by the cloak,
But Gandalf thundered, "STAY!, The evil I bespoke
Is gathering apace". And in an instant the sun
Was darkened and a massive cloud of bats descended
Followed by hordes of goblins. The elf
war was suspended.

Well, I got all four Jumble words without problems, but was stumped by the solution. Hoped there would be a poem on the blog to help me out, and delighted to see Wilbur's already there. Found three of the words and then laughed with delight when I realized the third one had evolved into "the sun was darkened"--very clever. And there was the solution, verified by Ol'Man Keith's funny gloss.

Thank you, both, for making this toughie a fun Jumble.

Just got back from an early morning trip to the ER. Yee-ow! I had a gawd-awful pain in my bladder that struck with an unfamiliar intensity and lasted well over a half hour.
I woke my wife, and she drove me down to Hoag Hospital.
Very little traffic. Very few patients in the ER. People are staying away for fear of the virus.
First time I've been out of the house in over two months. I wore my mask, as did all the staff and docs.
They took blood and pee, confirmed I had a urinary tract infection (my first ever!), and sent me home with a prescription to clear things up.
Hopefully.
It could always be something else. The ER just check for the first thing they find wrong and prescribe for that. Fortunately, I already have an appointment to see my urologist next month, so if there is something else wrong, we can continue the hunt.

Impressive developments among the factions, Wilbur! Gandalf's voice has an awful lot of power--causing all those bats and goblins to enforce his command.
So the elf war was suspended? Along with the Kentucky Derby and MLB.

Still no Owen today? I am holding back on his "dubbing" til I know he's in the vicinity.

Throughout the long Napoleonic peace, Italy, England and France had bickered but then all united against the common threat.

Dain of the Iron Hills had arrived with 500 armed dwarves just prior to the descent of the goblins. Borg of Moria is leading a crack group, looking to take revenge on Dain from an earlier battle.

And the loss of the great Goblin has all goblin-dom worked up.

So, blood and good this week.

Well the gathering of goblins and bats was happening in the background.. Gandalf had a sixth sense but the onslaught surprised even him

I hope your bladder issue is resolved. Do you take cranberry supplements? I have prostate meds and last week my bladder had a mind of its own.

That six letter D word reared its ugly head reminding me of the nyt clue: How we knew that the Jersey Shore character was incontinent?

I had to LIU Jersey Shore.

Oh dear, Ol'Man Keith--what a terrifying experience and thank goodness you were able to get to the hospital quickly for tests and medication and recommendations. Hope you are beginning to feel better, and hope you continue to get more help for your condition. What a brave soul you are to check in with us after such a difficult day. Thank you for that.

And Wilbur, thank you for your very kind comment.

Ok, I won't leave you hanging ...

Jersey Shore, which I watched for several minutes never to return, had a character named 'The Situation'. And how did we know he was incontinent?

Spoiler alert

Depends on the Situation

21 characters down on a Sunday NYT XWORD.

My situation was that gravity was all I had pushing. It's completely cleared up now, I'm peeing like a racehorse. Perhaps an old bag but pretty good for me.

HBD to my son, Phil, btw.

Cheers, WC

I am fine now, Misty.
I mean, I have no pain. It was severe while it lasted, but I haven't had a new attack since this a.m. Maybe it will turn out to be just this infection, and that will be an end to it.
If it is something more, something serious-- well, at least I have a plan in place to follow-up on today's experience.

I was very sorry to read in the Corner about the loss of your friend. No matter how much we experience it, isn't the death of a friend or family member only partly absorb-able?
For me, it always has more of an effect than I sense at first.

Wilbur ~ Thanks for asking. No. But I drink cranberry juice for breakfast now--instead of my usual OJ. My wife recommended it when I started having minor pains a few months back.
I think women are more familiar with these UTIs, because of their different plumbing.
