The opening poem contains all the words (or variations of them) from today's Jumble.

Harry was a damn good baker.
He wasn't fake smart; he knew how to bake tart with the best of them.
So naturally his was a popular counter at the cake mart!
(Enough of a hint?--if you're off to a late start?)

And thus Bilbo did not take part in the famous battle.
He awoke covered by a shawl. "Looks like that stone rattled
Your cage", said Gandalf whose arm was in a sling.
"You proved your worth", said Bard, "Ask anything" .

"Just a warm bed for now, how was Borg beaten?"
"Even with the eagles, I feared we'd all be eaten
By wargs and goblins. A knotty problem but then
Beorn, in massive bear shape, bashed Borg's head in.

Wow, four spoons today, OMK. Bilbo has quite a bit of a headache. But Thorin on his deathbed wants to say adieu.

Stay tuned

The jumble was pretty easy today. Only clue four didn't come instantly and it just took a few. The solution, being so short, was easy too; it synced with the cartoon, but I'd give it only a "C" if I were grading, which, of course, I'm not, lol.

Had fun finding all the words in your poem, Wilbur. What a violent ending! Bilbo's world is pretty dangerous, isn't it.

What a delightfully colored Jumble cartoon we got in this page this morning! Really neat! Given how complicated the cartoon looked and read, with all those comments, it was a pleasure to get four pretty easy items, and an instant solution, with no problem at all. Helped make this a good Friday morning.

My goodness, Bilbo's world is pretty violent, but at least he's surviving. Nice to find all the Jumble items and solution in the poem, Wilbur--many thanks.

And how nice to have you back early, Ol'Man Keith. And wow! three spoons on the solution. I'd say that's 'great art'--not 'fake art.'

Yep, with the ring on Bilbo was out of sight. I'll have to see how the J words guide the rest of the saga. Bilbo can't wait to sleep late in his own bungalow, have a late breakfast, smoke his pipe and entertain his nephews.

But he's got a long way to go.

Ps, and a surprise waiting for him on the return home

Wow! Back to you, Wilbur ! Not only to cheer you for the outcome of the battle, but for nearly keeping to pentameter! Neither was an easy feat.
And the true beauty of your work is that I heard the natural power of your meter before going back to scan it, to be sure it was so artfully arranged.
It did not require any "actorly" adjustments on my part to achieve your natural sound. That was your good ear at work.

And I thank you for cheering me on in my little rhyming exercises. In truth, four hints were not hard to do, given today's simple solution.
I think the easiest words to rhyme in English are monosyllables with pure(non-diphthong) vowels ending in a plosive consonant (k,p,t).
I started, as I usually do, by trying for a perfect Spoonerism. That's how I reached "bake tart" first of all. Spooner would have been "pake," but there's no such word. So I changed the un-voiced "p" to the voiced "b."

Just popping in to reassure you I'm still okay, sorta. My prostate medicine finally arrived, so I'm no longer feeling a constant urge to pee combined with discomfort when I actually managed to do so, but my "happy pills" aren't due to arrive until Tuesday, so I'm still in a funk poetry-wise. Just read over the past three days postings, and found out about Keith's ails. Frightening, since that's close to what had me in the hospital last year, and still not fully recovered from! Be careful, be safe, be well my friend Keith!

Hope you stay safe and well, too, Owen.

Owen, so wonderful to have you check in with us. I've been worried about you all day and kept checking both blogs to see if you had posted, and here you are! Thank you so much! Hope your medications help, and that you'll soon be feeling a lot better. Take good care of yourself!
