"I gots m' pals on da job, see!" That's what Louie the Louse, a street informant, says when bragging why he doesn't get hauled in for petty crimes.
"Dey guv me dis card, see. Like I'se almos' a cop m'self--parta da blue fraddernidy, see."
He flashes a beat-up playing card, a jack-o'-clubs with a sergeant's scribbled badge number on it.
"If a new guy tries ta t'row me in da wagon, I just show m' card 'n' plea the p'lice brudderhood.
See!"

Good one OMK, shades of Nicely,Nicely and his COHORTS. Some old cohorts if Bilbo have come a knock'n on his door.

One night, years later, Bilbo had just dozed off in his chair
When a loud knocking was heard and who should appear
But Gandalf and a bejeweled dwarf. "Still awake?"
"For you and my friend Balin, I'll gladly forsake
An early bedtime. Come I have a fillet I'll roast
And tasty fixins too. Plus finest wine, let's have a toast."
"Ah, Bilbo, we'd hate to keep you up after curfew"
Said the wizard, lighting his pipe. "So what's new?"
"The only adventure I have is fleeing the unwanted guest
Who skulk about like fleas hoping for spoils from my quest".

FLN, Uh oh, Misty. Coffee late at night?
You're like Bilbo, perculating coffee for his late night guests and then feasting and regaling.

I hope an early morning Bilbo bagnette will entertain and inform my favorite jumblettes: Sandy and Misty

* Wow, I'm rhyming subconsciously now

Well, after an overly tough Saturday crossword, this Jumble was a doggie treat. Took a look at it and the solution had the ease of a breeze. Then all four words filled in, with only a little work on the fourth. Woohoo! Fun Jumble, which made me especially thankful that my sweet Dusty never has to scratch those wee bees.

Then on to the fun of the blog, and there it was, Louie the Louse, with a hilarious speech from a brilliant actor's high degrees.

On to Wilbur's poem, where Bilbo is blessedly at home and gets an evening visit from a wizard. Is this the sweet ending to his story, or will Gandalf come up with a new dis-ease, figuratively speaking?

If so, your jumblettes will be in your debts.

I do like your poem, Wilbur; it's good to see Bilbo safe at home -- and years later, to boot. He's gone from really too much adventure to perhaps not enough?

This jumble was peculiarly unsatisfying, because it was so easy. One look at the cartoon and poof! the solution popped into my head. The clues, which I looked at next, were quite as easy. I like it when I get all the necessary letters organized from the clues and then have to think for a bit to see the solution. Not too long, mind you, but a little effort makes it more fun.

What a pleasant conclusion (?) for ol' Bilbo!
A happy (?) reprise via memory with characters from a more adventurous time.
W.C., you know what appeals to the geezers among your readers--to re-visit earlier times through remembrance only.
We no longer need to prove our mettle in death-defying feats.
Better to amuse ourselves in our "golden years" in codas of un-tarnishable nostalgia.
