|Smiley face| _wheat, knife, lawyer, unjust, sweet talk.

The opening poem contains all the words (or variations of them) from today's Jumble.
Comments are welcomed! And couching them in Poetry is definitely NOT required.
Do not explicitly reveal any of the actual answer words until after closing time, but embedding them surreptitiously in comment sentences is encouraged.

Ok, yes, quite true, accurate description.

Moral Advocacy

They rain holy clouds o’er Isles of the Damned—
Lawyers!—They can sweet talk the most unjust feat.
If a knife is found in a murderer’s hand,
his attorney’ll swear, “Er… he was harvesting wheat.”

Whatever the crime, whatever the disaster,
the ABA stands—side by side—with The Pastor.

"Tough Day Relief"

The lawyer didn't want to annoy her
with sweet talk in the foyer.
He had just sentenced a man to life
for attacking his wife with a knife,
but a court found his sentence unjust,
so his day had been a bust.

His wife could tell he needed a treat
like the cake she baked with fresh wheat.
And they finally had their sweet talk
on a wonderful afternoon walk.

Funny how the same J-words can lead us in different directions—eh, Misty?
My scoundrel advocate is apparently a prosecutor or judge in your telling.
Whatever his shape-shifting, I am glad he and his wife end up on the better side of their talk.
It is so much nicer to be sweet than sour.

2/22/22 ~ The string of “2”s reminds me that GW almost made it himself. Washington was actually born on 2/22/32.
1732, that is.
When I was a kid, we used to get Washington’s Birthday off from school. This was long before they consolidated it with Lincoln’s (Feb. 12) and made up President’s Day.
The date is near my birthday, so I used to brag I was getting a holiday.

My family felt a proprietary interest in the day because the 22nd was also my grandpa’s birthday.
His name was Henry Clay Fowler. I didn’t learn until I was older that he was a twin. His brother was named George Washington Fowler.
His brother, my great-uncle, was only 12 when he was struck dead by lightning.

What a fascinating family history you have, Keith, and how interesting how it intersects with all that Washington presidential history! Keep telling us more about it, as we go along!

Appreciate that my original mistake wasn't pointed out (2-2-22 instead of 2-22-22!).
Typos are the pits, aren't they!
