For whatever they’re worth,
two poems from me today.
Each stands alone: first, a haiku;
then, an octet…

”Notes on a Courtship”

Gave her three tulips…
My efforts clicked —with the fourth.
Afraid I’m older.

”Tactical Withdrawal”

Jeb hoped a tulip would win her affection,
and offered a second to double his chances.
He was older than she & afraid of rejection,
so he threw in a third, to festoon his advances.

Still nothing? All Jeb’s efforts were meeting with silence,
Should he be thankful she hadn’t resorted to violence?

“All right! All right!!” He tossed a fourth—ten!—a dozen!!
“Wait! gimme one back, and where—Where’s your cousin?!”

This was the hardest set in a very long time. I appreciated the baseball theme.

"Challenge"

A puzzle like this was an all out effort,
not my second or third but my fourth
because I was afraid
of all the mistakes I made.

But it worked, and to give me a tip
my husband bought me a tulip.
So doing puzzles now when I'm older,
makes me a little bolder.

Ah, welcome back, Ms. Misty...
Your charming verse reminds us of your recurring theme, that marital love brings a special joy!
Furthermore we see how encouragement--along with repetition--brings confidence, a notion that should inspire any faint-of-heart readers.

Well that explains it. I had "litup" and "drole" for the first two. Hence riddle-solution was ungettable.

Misty you're getting very good with these J-verses.

Both of you had similar ideas about those tulips but OMK 's guy wasn't going to let rejection beat him. Btw...

Didn't she have a younger sister? Oh the tales I could tell...

Lemonade, do you do Wordle?

I got one in two this week.

WC

Btw, that would be interesting J-verse material

Ol' Man Keith, I was amazed at your long, complex versifying today.
Loved your haiku, which helped you avoid having to rhyme 'tulip.'
Also liked Jeb 'festooning' his advances, though I gather things sadly didn't turn out all that well. Well, maybe better luck tomorrow.

Thanks for the kind words, and for checking in with us, Wilbur. We'll look forward to maybe getting a verse from you tomorrow. Have a good weekend coming up.
