The opening poem contains all the words (or variations of them) from today's Jumble.

He wasn't a shrimp, but wasn't much bigger. He wasn't all that important, you'd figure. Still he could swim with bigger guys in a crunch, And when he did, he was often out in front!
His full real name the authorities knew, But his alias nickname was fully more used. Some called him a nuisance, a bug in a rug, Altho he'd been key, when situations got snug!
He could be quite astute at planning ahead. He foresaw a day he'd be someone to dread. He never looked back, only forward was drawn. Played the game squarely -- he was a chess prawn!
Unscrambling the words was easy as pie though for a while I thought the second one might be asail! Twas not. It was its alias! The final solve brings to mind a cozy bed on these cool desert nights. Nice one, Owen!
This has to be my quickest Jumble ever. The four answers popped right up for me, and so did the clever solution. A joy all around. And getting all the answers gave me a chance to enjoy your poem, Owen, without having to worry about finding the answers. Lots of fun, many thanks.

Must be a bad day for me; couldn't get into the poem, though the connection of the two was clever, I thought.
The jumble clues seemed evident, and knowing what one of The solution words must be made the solution pop up easily.

I too knocked this off quickly .Tbtimes has rearranged the comics section. I come to the J first so if the solutions are fast I do it.
Then the bridge column (Cy the cynic was CARP*ing about alimony). I'm mad the Lio has been replaced. That was one of the best .
