The opening poem contains all the words (or variations of them) from today's Jumble.

Hollywood gossip reported that Tom and Penny had a falling out over her objection to his consumption of baby bovine.
At Massimo's, Penny stated her feelings, and Tom replied,
"Sorry, darlin', but I happen to dig Veal Saltimbocca."
They concluded their evening at separate tables...
so it is said.

I jot down the circled letters and my D from #3 looked like a P. Resulting in , well to put it in OMK terms
When Penny's dish came, a funny looking rack of ribs, Tom said "Is that PIG REAL". And Penny responded " That's DIG's DEEP".

I just looked at the CC write-up and there's that rack of ribs. Looks good.

"Yes, Bilbo", said the wizened wizard, the minions
Of Sauron are ever anxious to extend their dominions,
And spread their filth from the lands where koala
Eat from the eucalypt tree to the grasslands of the impala."
The pair pressed steadily westward with the sound
Of the buzzing bees and chirp of happy birds
Breaking the happy quiet as their road wound
Past the baleful mountain. "Of that, I'll say not a word".
"But Bilbo", said Gandalf, finding the Magic Ring
Was a very big deal, however you got the thing.
I don't wish to pressure you with the third degree
But was it really given by Gollum as a present to thee?"

My goodness, Ol'Man Keith and Wilbur--you sure know how to turn a sweet and elegant Penny Marshall/Tom Kanks cartoon into a riot! Very funny. And Wilbur, the way you produce those rhymes is just amazing, especially in your first stanza.
So I don't quite understand the figure of Zolgar (?) behind Penny and Hank? What does he have to do with the solution? Hey, I'm not totally awake yet, and probably need a fig meal for breakfast to wake up.
Well, I looked up ZOLGAR and here's what I found: "Zolgar the Brutal is a Xivkyn found in the Elven Garden District in the Imperial City." I'm afraid that tells me nothing about his place in the cartoon.
I then looked up Penny Marshall and Tom Hanks and was reminded that Marshall gave Hanks the role, and directed him, in the movie "BIG," which became the top grossing film directed by a woman at that time. So that explains the ___Deal in the cartoon. But Zolgar? I guess we'll never know.
Hi. Back for a bit. The jumble was very easy, both clues and solution; I'm quite familiar with that film.
Wilbur, I always enjoy the way you fit the jumble words into your poems, especially when you adapt and modify them, as in your second verse today. Makes them a little more challenging to find.
Misty, look again at the cartoon. That's a "T", not a "G", for Zoltar, the fortune-telling machine.
Good spotting, Sandy! That straightens us out.
Good research, Misty, I thought it was a "G" too!

Re. Movie "Big"and Zoltar
"Twelve-year-old Josh Baskin, who lives with his parents and infant sister Rachel in Cliffside Park, New Jersey, is told that he is too short for a carnival ride called the Super Loops, while attempting to impress Cynthia Benson, an older girl. He inserts a coin into an unusual antique arcade fortune teller machine called Zoltar, and makes a wish to be "big". It dispenses a card stating "Your wish is granted", but Josh is spooked when he notices that it has been unplugged the entire time."
Sandy, KOALA was a challenge. Since I've got you here I'll explain a reference. When "The Hobbit" was written in the original edition Bilbo lied about how he came to possess the Ring just like Gollum lied about 'his birthday present'
When the book was later republished the "lie" was explained by the power of the Ring to distort values. I'm going to LIU, my memory is dim.
Thx any and all for the encouragement
Owen, Hope to see you soon

This source explains it. My memory wasn't so bad
the big lie
Thank you, Sandy, Wilbur, and Keith, for explaining Zoltar to me. The things you learn on this blog--absolutely amazing!
