The opening poem contains all the words (or variations of them) from today's Jumble.

Do not explicitly reveal any of the actual answer words until after closing time, but embedding them surreptitiously in comment sentences is encouraged.

We environmentalists are great fans of the guardians of our green preserves, and we support the hard-working professionals who protect our nation's forests and state parks.
We hug wardens and embrace rangers and believe firmly in Smokey the Bear.
And no, I most certainly do not accept the disgraceful rumors that he is a molester in his peeled shirt avatar for those public service ads!

J4 was pretty easy, though I did have a little trouble with clue three. I'll be interested in how clue four will work in a poem with the other three. The solution was obvious once all the letters were there; I guess it's a pun.
J6 gave me fits with the second clue, but finally got it. Appreciated the double meaning in the solution; now that's a pun!
Hope Owen is ok and looking forward to Wilbur and Bilbo.
I'm worried about Owen, too, Sandyanon. Missed him on both the crossword and the Jumble for two days in a row, and really looked forward to his poem today.
I also had trouble with the third item in today's second Jumble. But I looked at the cartoon, and the letters I already had helped me get the Jumble solution pretty quickly. And that in turn gave me the third toughie. Wild and crazy Smoky the Bear story, Ol'Man Keith, pretty much out of the field of that sweet gardening couple.
FLN: Message Alert! From OMK on behalf of Mr. Godot to W.C.:
He came again Friday. You were here too,
But something felt wrong. He wondered why you'd
Exhume his old drama. With a note he deferred
Being cornered: "Explayning a play? That's absurd!"

OMK assured me that I had the riddle-solution right on the 4*4. And I was sure of "in his peeled". But the first word?
I know a farmer who's out standing in his field? SEERER? Somebody make a coupler with that first word please. And..
I saw your poetic query, OMK, FLN, and I was working in a response and fell asleep. I drove sub City to Dunellon and got to bed after midnight. And Sunday xwords even if easy go slow.

I need a nap
Wilbur, where did "peeled" come from? Is that a rhyme? I think you'll just have to exert some more effort to get the j6.
Let's let Wilbur nap, Sandy.
I suppose he is responding to "peeled" in my first post above, where I insert it as a rhyme for the last word in the J6 solution.
That's my guess.
Meanwhile, he's searching for the first word of that solution.
I'm afraid my hint had to settle for a near-rhyme (the latter two syllables of "Molester" being only my best effort; it would take a little EXertion to reach the EXact) word).

Meanwhile (again!), just pondering...
I don't suppose we're being spied on, Misty,
BUT
the word that gave you trouble ("the third item in today's second Jumble")
just happens to be the same word I used in my last post to Wilbur yesterday!
It's a word I have rarely used--if ever--in the past dozen years.
What are the odds of having it appear here,
in our blog,
on one day, and seeing it the very next day,
in the Jumble itself*?!
(Cue background music from Psycho!!)

* Oh, sure, I know they make up these puzzle pages in advance, but haven't we all heard of psychic premonitions, ESP, and such?
Here are my six words:
Inhale,Bisect,Fervor,Danish,Mettle,Expire;
I then extracted
ERETLEDNIFERSEIH
Leading to SEERED IN THE FIELD
Where have I gone wrong?

Meanwhile responding to FLN and again today:
Misty being an expert on the illustrious Joyce
Was my logical candidate to elucidate voice
On the later author who acknowledged his debt
To the great James. Mr.Samuel Beckett.
WC
Wilbur, with respect to the Jumble, you might try PREFIX as the last Jumble word. That might help with the solution.
And,
You're right about Joyce,
He's my number one choice.
But I'd never forget
The brilliant Beckett.
I wish to second Misty’s proposal.
It offers the letters for your disposal.
~ OMK
Yes, Wilbur, if you look again at that word, you'll see that there's an "f" and only one "e".
BTW, Wilbur ~
Mr. Godot defers to Ms. Misty, if that is your wish
And hers. He’ll cool his heels. Maybe play “Go Fish.”
In fact there was a second note--which said,
“You must not open. Please leave this unread.”
~ OMK
Aha, do, expert in the field. I should have gone back and checked that one. I was looking for an X.

Now I can construct Bilbo's epilog
I'm anxious to create some verse
But sadly I have miles to go first
Previous composed while gassing* up at Walmart
* Actually, deisel. Difference in price: deisel at Wawa $2.39
" " Walmart. $1.73
Ol'Man Keith
So, Mr. Godot will take it slow.
He can wait till he's ready to go.
Meanwhile I'll wait on his note,
Till I have time to devote
To reading it
And heeding it.
Finally
And the years passed peacefully in the shire
For Bilbo who spurned the fervor of adventure.
He'd proven his mettle and no longer had the desire
To travel. "The road goes on and on I'm sure,
But I'm happy to dig in my humble garden
And entertain my friends who visit from afar
With their musical instruments the cello and guitar.
Who bring news of Dale and the Laketown men.
Nor that I spurn the affairs of dwarf and elves
But I'd rather not inhale the air of lands east
Of the river Brandywine that bisects those that dwell
In Hobbiton and the unknown lands of the savage beast."
A queer old codger the townfolk judged him
Who'd left his comfortable BagEnd hole on a whim.
The prefix "Odd" was attached when referring to that gent
Who ate danish with dwarves but seemed now content.
"I leave it to Gandalf a most excellent bloke
To judge the affairs of wizards and foreign folk.
For he's the expert on elves and magic rings
And the dwarves of the mountain who craft marvelous things."
