FLN, Thank you for checking in with us, Owen!
Very sorry to learn of your most recent health downturns, but still pleased that you are hanging in there and in good medical care.

Be well, dear Maestro. I am sure those who pray will be asking for grace on your behalf, and we will all hold you close & in our warmest thoughts.

No hint needed today.
I merely tested Wordle Bot’s new recommended starting word.

As you can see, you can’t go wrong with it.
I guess the Bot reckoned the old starter word, CRANE,
had grown too old and funky.

There are saints who were sanctified in jail.
Saints who died along the pilgrim trail.
There are saints who came in groups,
There are saints who came in troops,
But Murgetroid's beats every saint's tale!

That’ll be all from me. I’ll take my vow of silence for the rest of the day—
after leaving you with the following:

“Today’s Vow, and its History"

It’s time again for a break, and you can see
how well I’m able to keep my vow today.
I almost slipped last week when WC
prompted me to thank his “By-the-way.”

He was admitting my correctness, when
I caught his flub with words that sound alike.
Naturally, I wanted to say “Amen,”
to civily hail his fairness, pulling no “Psych!”

So I briefly forgot to keep my big yap shut
(this metaphorical mug). A kneejerk rave
led to my posting two words of praise. My gut
reaction curtailed my hush. I caved.

But Monday had come. A technicality!
Past midnight—saved—horologically!

If I had used my usual starter word instead of OMK’s vowel- rich word, I would have solved in three.
OMK- I was not aware of the Wordle-bot suggested starter, and LIUed. Anagram today!!!
WC- you were fortunate that your second guess gave you that fourth letter.

Owen- good to hear from you and sorry to hear of your health and moving/losses issues. Thoughts and prayers for continued improvement.
Re your poem: I am stymied by the Murgetroid reference. Saint? Heavens to Murgetroid?

OMK- enjoy your Sabbath rest.

Murgetroid's name just came to me. Maybe Erato will explain it tomorrow.

Don’t Quit Acting

The competition can be intense
For those female roles
With skimpy costumes.
But remember your goals
And don’t sit on the fence.

It never hurts to boast.
Hedge your bets,
Update your stale résumé;
No time for regrets
Detach and let it travel via Canada Post.

Owen- Ah. I await more about Murgetroid’s tale!

My goodness! What delightful posts and messages and poems from all of your today--what a Sunday treat! Thank you, thank you!

What a gift to not only see you are back, Owen, but to get your lovely verse about your saints as well. Yes, when one has a lot of losses like the ones you've been dealing with, prayer can be a blessing, and I'll keep my fingers crossed that Murgatroyd will be a comforting help to you!

Ol' Man Keith, you too have been a surprise this morning, when we were expecting you to give us your usual promise of silence, but instead reversed your vow with a lovely, complex ABAB ABAB ABAB CC rhyme. Sundays don't get any better than this!

CanadianEh!, it's also wonderful to see you precisely listening to your own inspiring verse and doing exactly what you encourage. A lovely offering, many thanks.

And, Wilbur, thank you for your always welcome Wordles too.

And so, I need to explain why I was not able to present a poem this morning.

On Friday morning at 9am I looked in the mirror and noticed there was blood covering half of my left eye. It continued all day yesterday without any improvement, and I told Clauder (Rowland's last care-giver who continues to live here) that if it was no better this morning, I would need to go to a clinic and have it checked. And that's where I spent my morning, at an emergency clinic at the Mission hospital, where I was visited by half a dozen different nurses and other folks until a Doctor came in and told me that it fortunately appeared to be nothing serious and would probably clear up in about ten days.

When I came home, I crashed on the sofa in my study and fell asleep, to recover from the journey. When I woke up and checked the paper, I found no Jumble--and so no verse from me today. And I'm still only half-way through that giant crossword puzzle. But it's good to check in with you all and enjoy all your offerings, making this a good day, after all. So many thanks, and I'll try to come up with a verse tomorrow.

What a hero drinks may betray his thoughts.
Be it a gin and tonic or whiskey on the rocks
And you know that champagne
Precedes a long campaign
And a martini always produces ideas fraught!
