Today’s Jumble haiku:
(Certain people dis-respect the house limits set by drinking establishments. No matter how liberal a restriction may be, such folk will…)
”Nightly Scoff It!”
Some bars will permit
forty-drink limits—and en-
force them with bounties!
(How can we say we
truly know a man before
we know his limit?)

There he goes in his bespoke suit,
Out to earn some legal loot.

Whatever messed up my posting ability has evaporated (for now).

I reflected on the magnitude of the problem before I opened my mouth.
I found the W in your offering today Owen. I love the “legal loot”
OMK- WC may suggest AA for the patrons of your bars with 40 drinks limits!!
Beware of household help who seem to be more energetic than they are in reality. But OTOH, if they love cats and are British, one might overlook that fault.
Fit Tidy Pro
The housekeeper charged per mitten,
And flexed the Bounty towels
Wiping up after the kitten.
Her contract’s dry ink spoke clearly-
When the Roomba’s job was finished,
She would invite all for tea.
"Flo's Dough"
Florence turned forty in May,
celebrating a lovely birthday.
She had received a generous bounty
for her years of work for the county.
The tidy profit made her think
she might buy her first coat of mink.
But after a hearty drink
she saw the money as a permit
that her job she could soon quit.
Florence now just volunteers
and her retirement cheers.
(P.S. a family inheritance helped her too)
Owen, it's wonderful to have you back, posting every day! A gift to our blog.
Ol' Man Keith, a "forty-drink limit"? I though folks passed out after twenty drinks!
CanadianEh!, haven't been to Britain in half a century or so. Not sure I need to go back there for that cup of tea!
Misty- I love your title! Flo must have started to work for the county at an early age to be able to retire at forty! But perhaps that inheritance is substantial. And I agree with her decision to forgo the mink coat in lieu of retirement. Hopefully she will travel while she is still young (along with her volunteer work).
Glad of Flo’s familial dough, Misty, for I can’t imagine any county bounty sufficiently large as to encourage dreams of mink.
Much less a retirement fantasy.
But then, given the size of her independent support, she probably didn’t need gov’t work in the first place.
Maybe it was something to pass the time & keep her off the streets for 20 years,
and—best of all—to leave her co-workers in wonderment & gossip!
Delighted, Owen, to see you back, and to be offering your satirical poke at the parasitic profession!
Are we to understand, CEh, that the Roomba (and its kin) is making a housekeeper’s job redundant? That she need only flash a towel and play the hostess’ lofty role after the real work is done?
OR, OTOH, that she must do everything the Roomba can do AND more? That perhaps we must add itemized (per paw) kitten messes to her contractual obligations?!
As to my pub’s 40-drink limit, I consider it more of a challenge than a true cut-off.
And I quite agree, that WC would be likely to refer such patrons to AA.
Else what’s a haven for?
~ OMK
I got it!
Flo must’ve been a cop!
What with overtime & double time—and making friends with high authority, those who sign off on pensions—we understand that cops “put in 20” and are rich enough to retire to live on Mexican beaches.
Yeah, that must be it—
Sergeant Flo!

I'm stubbornly holding on to my pick a J that has no E strategy. I don't get those OMK style birdies but usually a sure par as my 4th guess is the only one left(eg I left no stone unturned)
I don't think Misty looks for clues but doesn't seem to need them.
She drew a blank on #1 fln, but bounced right back for par

Do you remember Lois's cousin??
When Lois arrived back at aunt Nora's she found Hollie relaxing on a chair
"Permit me to pose a question, cuz, 'How'd you like to make a tidy profit?'
Is making peanuts on your current job entirely fair?
I'm averaging nearly forty bucks an hour. Not above board but off it"
"Now that your not drinking think of what a bounty that could be
No more pushing pencils in vain, no mere measly salary
Check this video out of a before and after BnB condo
We can clean this baby up in under two hours, make lots of dough"
Lois pondered the offer, "Could all this be real?"
Then Holly showed her a fistful of Benjis. That clinched the deal.

BTW, the 40-drink limit does NOT apply to those who order a round "for the house."
I think everyone would see the folly of that. But I believe it needs to be spelled out--in case there are any of those "legal"-istic minds about.
In fact, buying "for the house" is a shortcut to re-setting one's limit. No matter how many drinks you may have ordered prior to this, you get to start all over again if you
buy
"for the house"!
~ OMK
Where does Hollie get her dough, Wilbur?
And with her ability to flash all those "Benjis," how come she doesn't have a place of her own--her own "baby," as it were--to "clean up in under two hours"?
What will Charles and Nora say?
Is Hollie a neighbor?
~ OMK
Hollie is also a relative of either Charles or Nora. Lois had had a falling out with her but reconciled and even offered her the Bridesmaid position at the coming wedding.
I hope Lois does indeed talk this over with Nora and Charles not to speak of Chet. "Easy does it" is a mantra of AA.
Leaving her current job and going whole hog on this so called bonanza sounds iffy, don't y'all think?
On the other hand BNB cleaning is a somewhat lucrative thing and $160 for <4 hours is not unusual

You must be right, OMK--Flo must have been Sergeant Flo after all, to be able to retire so early! Why didn't I think of that!
CanadianEh!, loved your poem too, and you introduced me to a new word--Roomba (a vacuum cleaner?).
Wilbur, you have me worried about Lois now, too. I sure hope she doesn't take that suspicious and iffy job. Keep us posted. I love your Chet and Lois narrative.
WC- I am worried for Lois. This Canadian did not understand “benjies” at first, and misread as “bennies”. I was thinking she was going down the drug road. Whew! But still, she should be cautious of this new offer.
Misty- yes, Roomba is the brand name of a robot vacuum. My title was an ironic statement on that housekeeper (the Tidy Pro) who was not really very fit if her work was done by a Roomba. I’m not sure whether Hollie would be trying to hire her to clean those B’nBs.
Too bad you can’t join us for tea.
