Xilpe was a white blood cell, defender of his home!
Thru the veins and arteries, freely did he roam.
He was alert for strange invaders, germs and viruses.
If found, he would attack them, take their life with his!
His host was a little boy, prone to cuts and scrapes.
Perfect breeches of the wall for Saracen germs to take!
Coarse pavement calls to little kids, until they're 8 or 9,
To abrade their skin, Then germs will slip in quite fine.
Tho smaller than a pixel, their damages were large.
Skinned knees were porous gateways to germs' charge!
So Xilpe and brethren patrol their proper channels,
Daily fighting germ warfare against bacterial vandals!
Today's cartoon here is entirely my own, except for clip-art of ladders and water-chute channels.
Jumble not a problem, except, strangely, the second, five-letter, clue, which took a bit of time. The solution was very clever in its punning, I thought.
The newspaper cartoon is cute, but I think yours makes more sense for the solution.
The poem is ingeniously funny, with its unusual hero in Xilpe. And the mental picture of Saracen germs breaching the walls of skin made me laugh.

Well, I might never have gotten this morning's Jumble solution, if it hadn't been for the help of your poem, Owen. Many thanks! I had trouble with only the fourth Jumble word, but then was absolutely stymied by the long two words in the solution. The cartoon was cute, with the little boys drinking some boxed drinks with straws, while their moms appear to be enjoying tea or coffee. And of course 'Sesame Street' is perfectly proper programming for little tykes like that. Fun Jumble, as always.
It is tough when there are only long (five or more letters) words in the solution. It defies the first of our guidelines--to do the short word(s) first so we need only deal with the remaining letters. They'll usually fall into place.
This one defaulted to the next guideline--to go for the word(s) obviously, blatantly missing from the cartoon's caption and dialogue. This was my key today, although I nearly missed it because on my first attempt I neglected to add the "s."
Doh!

I had some trouble with #4 but the riddle was obvious. So I had O,P,R to arrange in the first three spots .

Btw, if you missed it I brought some sports to Jumbleville . I've had a hatred of the NCAA for years and the latest Duke highway robbery inspired me to hunt up an old creation from 1995.
