|JUMBLE| |JUMBLE|

cigar, faith, wisely, outwit, heart of (the) city.

Image from the Internet.

The opening poem contains all the words (or variations of them) from today's Jumble.
Comments are welcomed! And couching them in Poetry is definitely NOT required.
Do not explicitly reveal any of the actual answer words until after closing time, but embedding them surreptitiously in comment sentences is encouraged.

See, just because two words have some sort of relationship doesn't mean they form a pun. On the other hand, I guess there's no rule that the jumble solution must be a pun. In light of that, it's sort of funny and marginally clever. Sort of and marginally. IMO, it's a C-/D+.

The clues, btw, were easy, except I did have a bit of a problem with the first one. D'oh!

Very interesting discussion on this blog FLN. If you go back and read it, you may have further ideas to contribute to the discussion.

"Try-yer-Luck!"
Sideshow barkers and fortune wheelers
will test your faith in honest dealers.
Fairground visitors wisely give 'em a pass.
Shut your wallet tight. Don't be a squealer.

Some rides are just fun; they ain't no risk--
those Dodge 'em Cars, that Great Whirling Disk.
Families hang to them, feeling safe.
Stick to those. Don't go for tricks.

No way on earth can you outwit the Ring-Toss.
That Marksmanship rifle has a screwy front notch.
The kewpie doll prize ain't going home
for less than twice its tickets cost.

Carnivals come and carnivals go;
in the heart of the city they give crooked shows.
Think you won big? "Here, have a cigar!"
Address for complaints? Nobody knows.

"Successful Politician"

The politician became a star,
seen on TV, smoking a cigar.
People had great faith
he could run the state,
and he ruled it wisely
with a budget not miserly.
His foes he'd outwit,
and in doubt never quit.
He was smart, he was witty
and won the heart of his city.

Sandy ~ I read all the late postings yesterday, and it strikes me as overreach that TTP would likely ban a piece as pleasant & anodyne as Misty's poem (above). Somebody once said, "All life is politics" and the entire subject cannot be banned without stretching the limits of authority, bordering on tyranny.

Misty ~ Your "people" lucked out!--choosing a politician based on his TV image and getting an apparently decent one!
Bravo! It helps that he had a solid budget, although we have come to appreciate that a sound economy is not to be relied upon.

A couple of fine poems today! I've decided to take a day of rest today, but should be back tomorrow.

SFAIK or can tell, we're all liberals here, but even if politics were not allowed (they are, here) I would think events of recent days transcend politics.

Two pictures today. The first one is the full size clip from the ArkDG, the second one I was playing around with the blog's editing tools to see if a larger version might be more or less readable. Your opinions?

I like the bigger one, Owen.

The bigger one--and now especially the one with color.
It is a shame we need to lose some of the resolution in the enlargements, but that is usually within an acceptable range.

Misty, with reference to your comment on the Corner today to Naomi about writing poetry every day. Gosh, I hope people don't misunderstand that to mean that one must write a poem to post on this site. If it were so, I would have to disappear. Poetry is fine, just not my thing -- writing it, that is, and I think prose comments are ok, aren't they they?

Auerbach was a coach known to have no mercy nor heart
He'd built his Celtics part by part.
He'd outwitted the league time after time - the ultimate dynast.
Russell was the first, Bird was the last.

He was a child of the City game putting team before star
And when the game was clinched there came the victory cigar.
The faith of Beantown resided in ol' Red
And in Celtic green all true hearts bled

Sandy, of course you need not rhyme. Your prose comments have a bit of poetry to them anyway. Your poetic efforts in the past were excellent btw, IMHO, YMMV

The color is excellent if not too difficult to obtain. Did I miss some late J comments? I'll check now.

I just couldn't let CIGAR pass without dredging up Celtic history. Did you know we got Bill Russell for Ice Capades dates for Rochester. They chose (the immortal) Sihugo Green

I'd love(as OMK suggests) to see if Misty's poem would pass the politics test. I'm surprised that my conspiracy posts survive. And. .

When Phillip was a preteen we went to many a carnival. One time Phil and his skinny pal Tony got on this ride and the seatbelt couldn't secure Tony. The kid was slipping out 24' high and Phil was holding on to him for (literally) dear life.

Phil was a PoW. He'd cause jams at bumper cars, suggest his father as foil for hypnotists and other conjurors(the Carny guy whispered to me to play along).

The hypnotist quickly excused me from the stage. Later the hypnotist and all his so called hypnotized subjects were getting into the van after the show, right next to my car. "Hi, guys". That included the incredible barking man.

I just read TTP's comments. Since we have a liberal enclave here I guess we can do our part to help TTP try to keep the CC pristine.

I do recall that troll that tried to "Rex" our happy family. I was wondering what happened to Jinx- he was the anti Picard.

Btw, I reside in a household that is passionately anti Dem,anti liberal politics.

Sandy, yes, of course. If Naomi checks in with our blog she'll see right away that it's not all poetry, and we'll further reassure her that rhyming is a total option.

Well, actually, I was more worried about other people reading that, thinking it's not for them, and not even bothering to look in.
