The opening poem contains all the words (or variations of them) from today's Jumble.
Comments are welcomed! And couching them in Poetry is definitely NOT required.
Do not explicitly reveal any of the actual answer words until after closing time, but embedding them surreptitiously in comment sentences is encouraged.

FLN: Hmmm.
On 2nd thought, I may have underestimated Bernie.

Take a look at him this pic:
Bernie says Hi!
He may be whispering encouragement to the troops...

"Time to Define a Time"
January 6th is Epiphany, the day the Magi arrived
after following the Star to the Christ Child's side.
It's also known as Twelfth Night, a date assigned
for mannerly comedies, parties peaking theYuletide.

An epiphany is also inspiration, an insight of the soul.
This year the irony was total, as masses converged
on the Capitol, drawn to no star but by a black hole,
a vivid lie, a vile lie infecting all who surged.

The Capitol absorbed the wallop of the attackers.
Their fierceness and their anger were magnificent to behold.
Yet their ignorance must taint them all as slackers,
naïve cynics, thought-disabled, merely doing what they're told.

Keith -- Good find on that Bernie picture! Thank you! Where did you find it? I searched on Google using "bernie meme iwo jima" and got Jeb Bush instead.

The demise of Flash has played havoc with my day. I used to get the Jumble at 6 pm, and after setting up the blog page to midnight, I had 4 hours to mull on it until the crossword came out at 10 pm. Now the 10 pm crossword starts my day, the Jumble (non-interactive) comes available at 11 pm, so I have hours less time to come up with a poem, and the interactive Jumbles with a color picture and a chance to verify my answers doesn't come up until 2 am!

Using timely words in a vivid manner,
The carpenter swung his hammer
To wallop down a nail.
'Twasn't totally a fail,
It's called a finger-nail in English grammar!

"Reward"

They awarded Mike a banner
for his quick and efficient manner.
His project was vivid
because his best he did give it.
Any problems he'd wallop
with a change and a dollop.
His success was so notable
he became quite quotable.
At last he could nail down a time
when he'd leave, and sail down the Rhine.
With all his great dedication,
he finally deserved a vacation.

Owen ~ Glad you enjoyed it. You were the incentive, the inspiration, as I wasn't aware it was even a "thing" before yesterday.
Following your lead, I invented his presence at the flag raising. Then when I couldn't find visual support, I doctored my own evidence. I used Photostudio on my laptop.
Enjoyed your limerick. I always appreciate economy, concision. At first glance last night, I thought the words might be handled with brevity. But I was also eager to vent on the riot, esp. because they smeared a favorite holiday. We used to have a Twelfth Night gathering every year, and now those so-and-sos befouled the day.

I am sorry Flash's end has wrecked your timing. You devote so much time and skill every day to keep us going, and your health problems have never given you a break. Please know you are a major force for good in our lives.

Misty ~ Nice rhymes, m'dear. Especially "notable/quotable." "Vivid/give it" might have won, but I'm just not a fan of reversed grammar.
Mike seems to be a very good worker. I was wondering what exactly his "vivid... project" was. By the time you had him sailing "down the Rhine," I figured he was a tour leader who was terrific at walloping problems in order to overcome time zone differences and mesh itineraries.
Is that it? Travel agents often get rewarded with vacations at the destinations they plan for their clients, so maybe I am on the right track...?

What a moving poem about January 6, Ol' Man Keith. I really appreciated it.
And thank you for your kind words about Mike. My goodness, he would have made an excellent tour leader, wouldn't he? Maybe that's what he was?

Loved your clever limerick, Owen, many thanks for that too.

Happy that Owen was here & could exchange verses and see the fruit of his Bernie suggestion.
(Did you get to see it, too, Misty ? Just click on that 4th line in my first posting.
I gotta kick outta making it.)

Really sorry we've had no greeting from Wilbur and/or Sandy! Would love to read their thoughts--if any. We'll never press for a poem, or even a long Hello.
Just love to know they're present, here among the originators, we Few, we Happy Few...
