The opening poem contains all the words (or variations of them) from today's Jumble.
Comments are welcomed! And couching them in Poetry is definitely NOT required.
Do not explicitly reveal any of the actual answer words until after closing time, but embedding them surreptitiously in comment sentences is encouraged.

Expounding ‘Expulsion’

Your hairdo’s nervy,
sure! But who’s expelled? Guess they
ain’t so fond o’ you!

Being the only Earthling on this station is weird.
As the only barber, I trim strange mane and beard.
There is the tiny Dunofe, with quills for fondues.
And the vain Diahor, always wanting new hair-dos.

The Interstellar Station is my home away from home,
Tho if I get to Earth again, I'll never want to roam!
The bar here is adequate, with alcohol on tap,
I just need to dodge the gas expelled by Lexpe sap!

Once I met a spaceman there, a man with steel nerves.
He talked about exotic places where he'd served.
He talked about his ship, it needed X pounds of fuel
To make it to a planet with air, so nice and cool!

If you enlarge the picture, the 2 TV sets show a hand dunking a basketball into the net.

I just grabbed the first word I saw to start. It proved ample to get me going.

The solution fits today's illustration
Sandy, NBA is on and no one's watching

"New Course Endorsed"

The nervy student often lies did tell
and so the school did him expel.
Well, the kid got a new hairdo,
and a job in a diner where he cooked fondue.
This work made him much more grounded
and soon a new course he expounded.
It was time to start obeying the rule,
and this allowed him to go back to school.

I wonder if we started with the same word, Wilbur

Owen ~ There’s something sad about your Earthling on Station Anagrammo. I sense a longing in his recollection of the spaceman who visits a Goldilocks planet.

Getting an honest job, Misty, seems to have shaped your kid up.
Fixing his hairdo apparently worked for him—in opposite fashion from my guy’s coif.

Terrific poem this morning, Owen--your productions always amaze me, and this was one of the best. Many thanks!

Ol' Man Keith, I always look forward to tracking down the Jumble words and solutions in your brief offering. This one started easy with your terrific "EXPOUNDING EXPULSION" title, but it was your ending with FOND O' YOU that just cracked me up

I've written at least twice before about the Interstellar barber who was kidnapped from Earth, and is trying to earn his passage back.
Did you notice all the alien names are from today's Jumble?

Ol' Man Keith said...

LOL, indeed I did, Owen!
And did you notice how I ID'd your space base as "Station Anagrammo"?

Thank you, Misty! Glad you caught the reason for that final contraction.
As a one-time phonetics student, I was pleased to remind readers of the proper "j" sound preceding the "u:".

Congratulations, Misty!
Glad I was able to help. Of course, tomorrow you'll have to choose your own starting word!

[Chet and Lois have been busy planning nuptials. I did get a nice letter from him]

Perhaps we're being nervy, perhaps it's just a bit to early
But honeymoons need to be taken ahead or we'll pay dearly
I feel it in the marrow of my bones , a feeling I cannot expel
That Lois of the bouffant hairdo whom I've come to know well
This sassy wench, no taller than the average gal
With the sunny disposition is my choice and that's final

She never pouts nor whines; she's always sugary sweet
There's no limit to my love from my eyebrows to my feet

We'll have a small wedding then a quiet reception
Aunt Nora's fondue is famous beyond expectation
Then we're off to exotic climes, the father away the better
The lazier pace suits us well - there's always time to be a go-getter
Next month when we return. But we must book our fares
now
As uncle Charles always expounds with familiar know-how
Prices are apt to soar along with our plane flying
As aunt Nora is won't to say:
"Uncle Charles ain't lie'n:
Supply and Demand are immutable economic law"
And for us, not to afford the tickets would be the final straw

I started with a x-word. It may have been inadvertent ie. One of the last clues to fall. Btw...
Saturday(ie today) was a bear. But I may have FIR. There's a back story to the solve which I'll save for my CC post
