The opening poem contains all the words (or variations of them) from today's Jumble.
Comments are welcomed! And couching them in Poetry is definitely NOT required.
Do not explicitly reveal any of the actual answer words until after closing time, but embedding them surreptitiously in comment sentences is encouraged.

Thing is, I don't write clue-filled poems, or prose -- nor comment on them. I am interested in the continuing story of Chet and Lois but that's not enough to make me a fully participating member of this group. I occasionally have something complimentary to say about the jumble solution, but more often, as today, I find it a pretty feeble reach for wordplay. Negativity is not a great contribution, for sure.

I thought maybe Wordle would be a help, but not really.

So I'll continue to solve the jumble and look at the blog daily (especially Chet and Lois!), but am bowing out of any further remarks.

My best to you all.

FLN, Wilbur ~ It’s hard to believe that it was only a year ago that Chet met Lois. Your poem does a fine job, not only of covering the J-Words, but of reminding us of the contrast in Chet’s world, from before Lois & AA to now.
What a difference his choices have made.

”Pondering Pain”

Unwind your array
of taut nerves! It’s phobic to
verge on fearlessness.

"Wedding Proposal"

Paul's phobia did him remind
that he needed to unwind.
His affection made him fonder,
and a proposal he began to ponder.
So he checked out an array
of wedding rings on display.
This gave his love a surge
to merge and not to diverge.
So he proposed to her on Friday,
and she happily "Yes" did say.

(The cartoon just didn't let me leave the topic)

Misty in case you missed it I had a late C&L poem fln. I combined Tuesday and Wednesday

I'll repost it
Tuesday, 5/17/22
_fleet, slimy, sprawl, outage, passage of time
Wednesday, 5/18/22
Verge,Array,Unwind,Phobia
Ponder ring
—--------
Chet was pondering how fleet is the passage of time
A year ago in slimy pubs on the trying to unwind
Pondering the cruelness of fate on the verge of desperation
Everything seemed arrayed against him looking for sedation
In whiskey, wine and beer while sprawled out on the couch
His main phobia? Living out old age minus a female touch.

Rephrasing line 2

A year ago stuck in slimy pubs and trying to unwind

Glad you were able to find a color version, Owen.
Thank you!

Misty ~ Hmmmm.
I wonder what Paul's phobia was,
that led to his proposal, 'cuz
somehow 't seemed tied to being fond
of her with whom he formed a bond.
A curious thing, for him to fear
the very gal that he holds dear!
A likelier scare for him to evince
would be of bachelorhood. I wince
at it myself, for solo living
fills yrs truly w/ much misgiving.

Ol' Man Keith,

I'm afraid Paul's phobia didn't exist,
it just happened to be on the Jumble list.
So I apologize for giving him a blip
and hope you'll forgive me for this slip.
But glad to hear you're happy not to be single,
and have lots of happy verses to jingle.

Wilbur,

Like others, I'm so glad that Chet
will soon this unhappy time forget.
Can't wait till Lois shows up to give
him better reasons to go on and live
a happier life together,
in rainy and sunny weather.

I see, Misty, or think I do,
yet guessed I did, but hardly knew!

I rather thought a word's subsistence
only relied on its Jumble existence,
while we, with all of poetic leaning,
took pride in giving words real meaning.

So for now, Please share my sense (ho-ho!),
that Paul had dreaded flyin' solo!

Your last verse gives our day's Jumble play a lovely ending OMK. Many thanks.
