And maybe a dent in his wallet?

Well, I got the Wordle in four this time. Frustrating, though, because I had the first four letters immediately. Took the other three tries to find the right end letter!!

P.S. Owen, you put the jumble up, but with little or a lot of trouble? I hope the former and that your computer problems are over.

This was depressing:

Sleepy,…

I dreamed I dressed up
for that casino. Then I
lost at poker—twice.

I put on my best dress and my poker face to go to the casino for an evening of games and entertainment. But I stayed too long and got sleepy, giving me losses that sent me into a depression.

At least that’s my story and I’m sticking with it!

I chose my vowel-rich opener today which was very informative (in a negative way). My second “frequent letter” entry was equally informative (somewhat of a WAG and the same as WC). As WC said, there was only one choice for the final letter and the Tada!

"Healthy Help"

The casino hired a broker
for people who lost money at poker.
He urged them to address
that they were in a financial mess.
Sleepy and weepy with depression,
they agreed to go to confession,
which helped them mend their ways
and start healthier and happier days.

Did anybody like my story?

You stick with that tale, CE!. It’s a good’un!
I thought I’d try CanadianEh!’s Wordle tactic—so led off with two popular vowels, both of which got eliminated.

(“Magnificent,” it said.)

You actually learn a lot—one consonant in the right place, another which must be used somewhere, and two vowels that have no place to go.
It helps, too, to have done a lot of Scrabble.
I should not be spending time this way.

I did, Misty. Count me as a fan.
Neat rhymes & rhythm!

And it’s a very clever idea, for a casino to recommend a broker to heavy losers—especially if the broker is also a priest who can provide double services.
Given the market’s volatility these days, though, ya gotta wonder what happens when the losers end up in full bankruptcy.
The casino’s likely to bear some liability—except maybe on the heavenly side.

How about checking with WC and seeing if an AA Advisor might also be employed, as a counterbalance to all those cheap & free drinks the casinos ply their suckers, er… customers with?

I'll second the kudos for Misty's poem which reads smoothly and has a message.

I sent an email to Chet and Lois re. any experience they might have with the effects of excessive alcohol and gambling addictions.

Nice story Misty.

Great work today with Wordle OMK. WE’ll make an addict if you get.

Thank you, thank you, Ol' Man Keith and Wilbur, for your kind words about my verse.

OMK, I actually began my verse with "The priest served as a broker." Wonder how those Jumble words this morning would conjure up a priest for both of us? As far as I know, priests rarely have anything to do with CASINOs, though they probably deal with a lot of DEPRESSION.
I can't believe how you manage to get all five Jumble words into your neat haikus every morning. Congratulations!

Wilbur, I look forward to seeing Chet and Lois's STORY continue.

[Here's the email sent from Chet and Lois]
Wilbur my friend you've nailed it on the head regarding the obsession
That many AAers have with gambling. The end result is depression.
Every last dollar stripped by the Casinos: Poker and the Slots.
They dress those places up fancy with entertainment and fancy bots
Which glitter and blink where the action never sleeps and no longer
Do you pull a lever just hit buttons until your last dollar's a goner

Sandyanon said...

Wow, Wilbur, is that actually true? I guess they're both addictions.
I have no problem with either of those, but food, now, that's another matter.

Wilbur ~ Your pals Chet & Lois are certainly correct , although I can only base my agreement on movies and TV tales that connect drinking and gambling.
No wonder the casinos invest heavily in liquor for the players!
"Keep 'em Plastered," that's their motto!
They count on alcohol inspiring, "All in"!!

CanadianEh! ~ I saw your J-word hints.
But I did not realize until I was done how subtle your Wordle clue was. Cool!

Speaking of "Dress"ing...
Years ago, in London, I had to "dress up" to try one of their private casinos, or "gaming clubs."
I wasn't skilled enough to play their poker, so tried my luck at the roulette table, rubbing elbows with turbaned Sikhs and white-robed Bedouins.
These were apparently "on holiday," as they would never drink or gamble at home.
It seemed like a real James Bond scene. I wonder how many MI6 agents were secretly under the tuxedos.
(Would they recognize each other?)

I lost pretty heavily on an early spin, so I wasn't able to stick around.
Misty ~ I'm sure the brokers and priests (and Imams?) had lotsa action later on. And Wilbur ~ I think an AA group met regularly next door.

CanadianEh! ~ "...if you get" ?

Ah, I get it now. "...of you yet" !
I wondered at first if it wasn't some sorta Canadian/Commonwealth idiom.
There is a British expression, so I was hoping you weren't calling me a "git."

CanadianEh! said...

OMK- I either didn’t proofread very well or auto-correct got me! Yes, I meant “of you yet”. No, we Canadians don’t use git. LOL.

I loved your early comment with all the J-words wonderfully worked into it, CanadianEh!.
And thank you for your very kind comment about my nice story.

Wilbur, Chet and Lois did it once again: worked all the J-words into their supportive, upbeat stories about conquering addiction with all its results. And your verse itself always has a great deal of charm which makes it a delight to read.

OMK, enjoyed your story about dressing up in London, back in the day. Hope you did well at your roulette table!

Misty ~ Sadly, as you could tell from my conclusion, I did not do well—and so did not last long.
