Mark was over the moon
when the paper published the cartoon
about a pet baboon.
The deal was fair and square
and he was quite aware
that the income he'd have to share
with his wife, who was the finest
artist with no minus.
The couple did happily compete
and suffered no defeat.
They bought a new abode
on their town's main road.
And for an extra boon
they acquired a pet baboon.

Enjoyed your poem, Misty; mulling it over and over, aiming to decide if the shared income came from her prize as an artist, or a contest he won,
either inspired by a baboon, or the first baboon pet was merely incidental.
