"Chic Chef"
As a kid, Donald was a dunce,
guilty of staging silly stunts.
His early life was a mess,
but in his twenties he began to re-dress,
and became a chef who did favor
dishes with outstanding flavor.
In time his cooking theory
produced a ring of fans who were cheery
and his marvelous dishes rationed
and his reputation fashioned.
Now with all those fancy cakes he has made,
Donald is at last at the top of his trade.

To displease with an excess of sweetness is to cloy.
Pity, CanadianEh!, that we don't have a similar word for an overload of salt.
Sadly, there is a range in our taste buds through which both glucose and sodium are unhealthy, yet enjoyable. By the point at which they either cloy or disgust, they have already done their damage.
You are correct that it "should be a cinch." Too bad it is not.

Wow! A second verse from you today, Ol' Man Keith, with cool words that I actually had to look up: 'penuche' (turns out to be a kind of fudge) and 'ptomaine' (compounds with unpleasant taste once thought to cause poisoning). You've sure made food poetry much much interesting today, OMK!

WC- yes I was running out of rhyming words and forgot that I could use C again.
Hard mode would have required you to use that yellow letter from the first guess in guess two (as well as the green letter). That limits the number of words you can think of.

(Sorry that I misspelled Lynch. LINCH is a word, but means “ledge or terrace”. Most familiar use is in Linch-pin.)
