The opening poem contains all the words (or variations of them) from today's Jumble.
Comments are welcomed! And couching them in Poetry is definitely NOT required.
Do not explicitly reveal any of the actual answer words until after closing time, but embedding them surreptitiously in comment sentences is encouraged.

It seems that Archie has decided to pass on the blogmaster opportunity. I'm still intending to "officially" retire in 2 days, but i'll try and keep the blog going for a while while ny health permits.

That’s sad news, Owen.
I wondered what could have been in it for Archie. It is a major commitment for anyone, even for someone who enjoys posting on a regular basis.
You have given us so much of your time and talents, I wish we were better positioned to be able to continue your labor of love.

Today’s Wordle hints: “Awe”; starts with A, ends with E.

Re. Charles turning the "Big Problem" into a generous gift. Speculation ?

The most obvious is that he re-thought it over. Perhaps he stumbled upon the consanguinity issue and decided to ignore it.

Or take him literally. He and Nora simply thought the pair were moving to fast. By scheduling a big wedding out in the future(6/23?) everyone will have more time

Any other ideas?

"Getting Married"

The decision to elope
at first gave the couple much hope.
But it required them to hurry
and created a lot of worry.
To avoid a fiasco, they knew,
it was best not to overdo.
So they married under cover
and now each has a spouse as a lover.

Well, that should have been easy, but took a surprisingly long time:

So sad to hear that Archie won't be taking over, Owen. What wonderful help you've given us here for such a long time. And thank you for being willing to try a little longer.
We owe you huge thanks.

What a Fiasco!

Hurry, hurry! Breaking news!
We are agape.
Chet and Lois have decided to elope.
They did not want to overdo the revelry
And Lois had no one to cover for her at work.

Wilbur Charles said...

I wouldn't be surprised that eloping might be Lois's first thought.. 200 people? Ceremony? Aaaarrrrgggghhhhh!!!!

My uncle turns 100 at the end of the month. He says "No birthday party!"

Chet seems to be the calm, thoughtful one. We had a small JoP nuptial. Then a year later the big shindig down the Cape.

A clever and amusing solution, Misty, your lovers using elopement to keep their marriage secret. Why, we don’t know, but that could be for another time.

Looks like ELOPE was a true trigger word, as all of our pieces dealt with that social subterfuge. Wilbur’s Charles may have feared it for C&L, and that may be behind the invitation for the rest of us to offer our own ideas vis-a-vis a large affair vs. a rush to Reno.
(Sorry about my timing. If I had seen the invitation first, I might have changed “Faye’s fiasco” to “Holly’s.”)

CanadianEh! got the note, and used the opportunity to offer a fine piece of fan fiction!

As for Wordle, it seemed to pose an unusual challenge today. I wonder why. My first try was AMAZE, and its failure seemed to lead quite naturally to the answer.

The size of the marriage has little bearing on its longevity. My first one was a modest ceremony, with just family plus a couple of friends. We lasted over twenty years. We’re still friends. In an earlier era, that could easily have been “till death.”

The second was the fiasco. Big, big ceremony, family and lotsa friends, even work acquaintances.
We barely went two years.

And now my third. A true elopement, just us up to Big Bear, to a place called The Hitching Post.
Over twenty years & counting, me & my dear “final bride.”

OMK,
My penultimate guess was also AMAZE. As I posted it I thought ' Wordle' hasn't had Z words in my short
history with it

Chet and Lois didn't seem gung-ho for a Marry'n Sam $24 spectacular with the dancing bears etc

But Charles has deep pockets and a mutual affection. For Lois

I know what your thinking: Holly: "Haven't I been the good niece all these years?"
