The opening poem contains all the words (or variations of them) from today's Jumble.
Comments are welcomed! And couching them in Poetry is definitely NOT required.
Do not explicitly reveal any of the actual answer words until after closing time, but embedding them surreptitiously in comment sentences is encouraged.

Here are my hints.
Can you read them and get it in one go, like I did?
It begins and ends with F. It has only one vowel.

Wordle 382 1/6

”A Choice World…”

Our census, poorly
conducted, lets each child weigh
up to fifty lbs.*

____________

With a cutoff total per family of one-eighth short ton!

All I can say is “Wow, they really threw a curve at us today! “ By my third guess, I had eliminated all but one vowel and many of the consonants. Then I began to think outside the usual box . . . and Voila!

Wordle 382 4/6*

Chicken Census

The child weighed his precious pullets;
It would not do for them to look poorly
Compared to the whole avian population.
Fluffed and preened, they entered the contest.
He was hoping for choice words of praise from the judges.

LOL OMK re your “cutoff total”.

"Merry Mother"

Sally always smiled
whenever she looked at her child.
She had many bills to pay
and many choices to weigh,
with an income that paid poorly
and not enough to live securely.
But her consensus was that she was lucky
to have a child that was sweet and plucky.

I finally concluded that SCUSES was a new word. I'd figured out the riddle-solution and knew I had to fit in C,E,S.
The U at the end I never saw

OMK, when you go zed for deux on first tries (C-eh, too) you know you're in for a Wordle tussle

I'd noted a trend on repeating letters but a threescore is the natural progression I guess.

Yesterday I thought YIELD was more wordlely than the simple FIELD.

Misty, I loved your using 'consensus' rather than forcing that other word.

OMK, is just wacky enough to think of a weight limit on families

I meant threesome

Canada, I'm dying to see your 3rd word. LEAFY?

Wilbur Charles said...

It just dawned on me. The Google autocorrect AI rejected the word THREESOME

It accepts it because I used it

Perhaps afraid thr J-blog is getting racy

WC- I went with BASTE, PORKY, CHILD.

Misty- I echo WC re your use of consensus.

A THREEWAY on the echo, guys….

Woohoo! Woohoo! I followed your hints, OMK, and got the Wordle in a single try! The first time ever in my whole Wordle career! And no, I didn't look it up--I got it using your clues.

Wordle 382 1/6

🟩🟩🟩🟩🟩

Thank you for the kind words, everybody--much appreciated.

Ol' Man Keith, I can never believe your haiku has all the Jumble words and solution, and, once again, there they all were this morning--Congratulations! And your child weight joke was very funny!

What an interesting idea, CanadianEh!--having your child entering its little hens into a contest. Lovely theme, lovely poem.

Wilbur, can't wait to see if Chet and Lois are going to raise chickens along with their child, down the road some day!

Congratulations, Misty! Even with the hints, it is not easy.
Using the clues I post, I find it usually takes two or three attempts. We both did well on this one!

Your Sally's kid seems to bear out that old saying, that "We're never poor when we've got each other."
It seems to be a staple of American biography, adding to Tolstoy's saying that "All happy families are alike."
It seems in America they must all be poor!

CEh! ~ I do hope the child's pullets pulled a prize ribbon! And not just one of those awards for "participation."
Watching Dr. Jan Pol on TV, I know how hard those kids' work to prep for state fairs with their chicks and swine and such. I hope yours scored a blue ribbon!
Neat job sussing out Wordle...

WC ~ "Phew," indeed! Good for you though, striking out on your own.
Even with my hints, who wouldda thunk they'd go for three of the same letter? Ehhh?

Actually, although I missed on the last two guesses yesterday(WIELD,YIELD》FIELD) I like to play around with Wordle.

Perhaps too careless as I've used CHUMP and PLUMP- virtually giving away a pass

Anybody keeping track of repeated letters on the solution?

Misty, perhaps later tonight I'll combine Wednesday and Thursday but try to avoid CONSENSUS

Oops Google just suggested consensual. It must have me pegged after threesome

[Charles responds]

"Did I say 'Big Problem?', those aren't my words of choice
I only meant I was concerned, we only wanted to lend our voice
Remember, Lois was born just prior to the millennial census,
We think of her as a child. Weighing all options is our consensus

We were afraid you two might be in a hurry and want to elope
That would be a fiasco , no need to overdo it rather scope
Out your options, let us cover all expenses for you and for her
With a big wedding and reception . Do you think Lois will concur?

Credit to Misty on that one word

Funny, WC, Google gave me no grief with THREEWAY.

Ol' Man Keith said...

So that was all that Charles wanted to say?
Well, that's (as they say) right nice of him. It surprised me, but it's definitely a good surprise.

Thank you, thank you, Wilbur--so great to have you continue your great story, and I loved the rhyming of 'census' and 'consensus.'
