Comments are welcomed! And couching them in Poetry is NOT required.

The full recipe for sautรฉing turnips called for the chef to
whisk vigorously while…

Whirling the Wrist in Hearty Whorls

To sautรฉ his roots
with style, Gore, the herbivore,
wore a fedora.

Owen ~ Don’t the directions at the top of the page need updating?

When I click the link to the Chicago Tribune, I can’t find the Jumble, only a series of short anagram puzzles. And NOT today’s words.

I have better luck with the Arkansas Dem link. It takes me to a list of the paper’s features, among which it is easy to find Jumble. I click on that, and there’s the Jumble, with a black & white cartoon.

Maybe I am doing something wrong, but I’m pretty sure I’m doing what any curious visitor would do.

My wordle post is on Thursday and my Thursday poem was posted late Wednesday. Here's my Wordle 482 4/6

⬛⬛⬛⬛⬛

I was taken aback when the solution popped

And for Misty's enjoyment

[Charles is texting a friend]
I'd like your slant on a situation that has arisen recently in my home
My wife's niece, is a self confessed sufferer of the alcoholic syndrome
Let me make it crystal clear that we cherish dear Lois, she's a love
But what about my wine closet and my cellar where I keep more than cloves

Must I abstain and keep up a false front? Would my imbibing
Color my relationship; would it possibly cause an accidental fling?
I'm fairly certain that Nora has everything under her control
But it's your advice I seek. "What should be my role?"

"Date Fate"

He wanted his romance to whirl
because he loved the girl.
He gave her lovely flora
and she bought him a fedora.
But their romance did not saute
because thing got in their way.
He asked her to uproot--
a plan that left her mute.
And so, although it broke his heart,
they now live worlds apart.

Poor Charles, what a dilemma he has to deal with, Wilbur. Let's hope that Lois doesn't learn about his closet or his cellar holdings and stays sober and safe.

Yes WC, it took me 5 tries to get the elevator landed correctly. Devious word today, and yet so simple.

Back later. I’m off to get groceries.

Misty, have happy endings. I think Lois would "uproot" if Charles found a great position for Chet in Kukumunga

WC

Ps, cab C-eh 's jint or mine help with wordle?

I followed my usual pattern of choosing a J but this time with an E. I was down to one vowel including Y

Words to the Wise

You don’t sautรฉ
To turn your fedora
Into a pork pie;
You stiffen the brim
With a dried sugar-water solution.

You can whirl around the dance floor
Like Fred and Ginger,
But don’t uproot tradition
And stay far apart.

HuskerG noted in the Corner today “ -The Jumble abuts the LA Times puzzle in our paper and its second word today was in Christina’s puzzle.”.

Once again, a great haiku OMK,

Misty- yes, uprooting can be a huge problem in some relationships.

WC- can Charles put a lock on his cellar to protect Nora from herself?
That Jumble word you used is a good starter that I have never used.

I just looked at your clever, clever haiku again, Ol' Man Keith.
Can't believe the way you came up with Gore/herbivore/wore---an amazing set of rhyming.

Ol' Man Keith said...

My own fave, Misty, is the rest of the line,
the classic internal rhyme: “…wore a fedora.”
And the gag, of course, was interpreting cooking “with style” as wearing a particular kind of chapeau.

Your own verse traces another sad outcome to what seems to have been an affair with good intentions on both sides.
They traded well-balanced gifts and, presumably, made their intentions clear. But, alas, as such things often go, they were fated to fail in love.

CEh! I imagine your advice for changing the line of a hat is expert, but as I never had the need to re-arrange the “cut of my jib,” as it were, I cannot offer first-hand support.
As to your wisdom vis-a-vis the dance floor, it reminds me of the reminder often proffered by Nuns who chaperone high school dances—to leave “room for Jesus between you!”

As promised here's my latest C&L

[Chet is talking to Lois,Nora and Charles]
"Coming to AA completely upended my life, a novel experience
It was worlds apart from my seat at that seedy bar from whence
My new life began with a tap on the shoulder from a certain someone
And that fossilized existence, not caring and certainly not loads of fun,
Transformed famously into a whirlwind life with the girl of my dreams
Filled with hope, filled with promise and rife with grand wedding schemes"

Chet is interrupted by Clara, Nora's house maid, who's been sautรฉing
Sausage on the grill. "Nora, supper is nearly ready and waiting"
"Come let's eat, the food is on the table" exclaimed aunt Nora
"But Charles, before you sit down, please ditch that fedora"

Did I get all eight plus two riddle-solutions? Four from Saturday to go with Friday.

BTW, if you're ever going to FIR a Saturday xword tomorrow is the one

WC ~ I understand Charles’ worry, but I believe I have already heard (via TV & movies) the word he should receive. Isn’t it true that AA advises social drinkers to stick with their customary wine or light-alcohol imbibing, while making non-alcoholic beverages available?
In the case of newly sober persons, I think it would be best to avoid alcohol entirely in their presence, but Lois is a veteran by now. And she will invariably be exposed to strong drink when socializing.
She can’t expect to fix the world, only herself. (My goodness, do I sound like a sponsor?)

So, I take it, Wilbur, that Chet’s heartfelt assertion of true love redeeming him from his earlier sad experience, moving as it is for most of us to hear, is still not enough to persuade Clara to let him wear that *#@! hat to supper!

Wilbur Charles said...

No, it was Charles that was wearing the @#$% hat!!!

Sorry! I thought Charles had to ditch the *#@! hat, from Chet’s !@#* noggin!
