During this latest reshuffling, some comments were lost. Here's mine for October y

The Vicar complained as loudly as most
About the traffic in the summer roast!
Whizzing past him
With reckless passion ,
While he drove the road the sloweth.

Holiday, All the Way

I trust Jumble colleagues will all make hay
and have yourselves a jolly good time,
while I enjoy my Sunday vacay,
and you embed clues in rhythm & rhyme.

And if your taste runs to playing those Wordles,
may you solve ‘em in two, ya great big Nerdles!

Yes WC, there were a lot of possible letters to use as 2&4. I lucked out on guess 3. Maybe because of my love of gardening!

Get Protocolling

Let’s not call a spade a ball.
We must get rid of the notion
That there’s no harm to a concussion.
Whatever the locale of the impact,
Even if fibula or goalie mask is intact,
And the player appears to be fine,
Assessment tools must be in line.

Thanks for the smile OMK. Enjoy your vacay.
We will Nerdle!

OwenKL- I love your Vicar who is the “sloweth”!

"Sad Season"

The goalie had an interesting notion
that he wanted to set into motion.
He wanted at his locale to appear
a crowd that would his team loudly cheer.

But it took longer to get the ball rolling
and by then the press had stopped polling.
This made his fibula sore
and cost him even more.

In the end he had sadly to reason
that this had been a terrible season.

Misty- how sad for your goalie to not have an appreciative fan base.
Our Maple Leafs have let us down, not winning the Stanley Cup since 1967, but there are still plenty of cheering fans. Hope springs eternal!

Glad at least to supply a smile, CEh!

Happy to pay it forwards.
It’s easy to offer a Sunday verse
since I needn’t rhyme J-words
that invariably make our works worse.

Your effort I ‘preciate,
and I’m sure your rhymey words
couldn’t carry more weight
than if tweeted by birds!

Your sad goalie, Misty, may need to pick up his game.
Fans tend to drop their support
when a team is lame.

We all hope for cheering crowds
In our various ways.
Silences—and darkened clouds—
haunt our fallow days…

Sorry to learn he had a bad summer;
maybe his fall won’t be such a bummer.

Ol' Man Keith, I can't believe you've become a poet! And such an active and terrific poet! I thought I remembered that at one time you didn't like the idea of blog poetry, is that right? But here you are--an absolute poetic champ!
And, on top of everything else, I know you'll respond to this message with a poem!

Ol' Man Keith said...

Thank you, Misty, but I have only been doing haiku for about a year. Before that, I wrote plenty of traditional poetry, churning it out daily, with plenty of rhymes.
I tended to prefer ABAB schemes to AABB, as you may recall.
I'm the old meanie who used to scold you for inverting your grammar to make your couplets rhyme!

But [sigh] I guess you have forgotten my old work. How fleeting is fame...

Oh, now I get you, Ms. Misty!

You must be—as the Brits would say—“taking the Mickey.”
You known bloody well I’ll pen paeans & an ode
even on Sundays. I do quickies & tricky
verses for you, products of this ol’ parietal lobe.
You pretend not to recall
to show me your gall.

(And now I feel small.)

_induct, coddle, fibula, gotten, origin, unique, inclined to agree
—--------
[Lois has some comments]
I cant wait for the big day, and the honeymoon will be unique
But so is Chester, I'd marry him and honeymoon in Dubuque
He doesn't coddle me even after my fibula strain
"Up and att'em honey, remember 'No pain, no gain'"

We've gotten so close and the origin of our romance is sweet
A seedy bar, khaki pants and that bouffant hairdo on me.
He thought joining AA was like induction into the Army
I said "keep an open mind ", later he was inclined to agree.

_locale, origin, spoken, exempt, smooch, tussle, loch ness "muenster"
----------
In the days when tales were spoken and rarely written
In locales whose origins were misted over in legend
There was a gothic gal who became smitten
She little knew that from amorous desires doom may portend.

For even brawny princesses are not exempt from love
She little knew that a harmless smooch would evolve
Into a full-blown tussle.

For this was Brunhilde she of the legendary brawn and muscle
Who'd never been overcome until she met Siegfried
And unrequited love and jealousy planted the fatal seed.

OMK could tell you more about that tragic tale and Wagner musically

One more from awhile ago but it brings back fond memories. Games six and seven; 2004

Sunday 5/2/2021
Unseen,Hidden, Encore,Oblong,Sprawl,Appear; Pleased as punch

Game five at Fenway unforeseen and unhoped for
Proved to be a nail-biting sprawl of an encore.
The oblong shape helped keep Yankee blows in the Park.
Extra innings again. And again Big Papi provided the spark.

Now the Series returned to 'The House Ruth Built' way back when
Shortly after the days when the Redsox were the mighty men.
The Old Town Team called on Schilling of the ankle tear
The injury had hindered his earlier start and Bo-Sox fans were in fear.
A hidden bandage covered seven unseen stitches
Who'd have thought Curt, bloodied but unbowed would last 90 pitches
Tendon surgery was chancey and success was an unlikely hunch
But in the end, while NewYorkers whined, Sox fans were pleased as punch.

Monday 5/3/21
Depth,Input, Pigeon,Seesaw;Step down
The seventh and deciding game would be played at the venerable Stadium
The depth of feeling between these towns promised more manic delirium
The Sox had been the Yankees pigeons for time in memoriam
Slight changes to the picture but still the same old Dorian

Listening to the input gleaned from wizened veterans of the wars
It promised to be another seesaw battle. Who'd come to the fore?
And Johnny Damon it was who joined Big Papi as hero of the day
Time to step down NewYorkers, for the Redsox now hold sway

And finally with a little poetic license I found this

The bovines of the forests and glen greatly feared the big cat
A friendly hyena APPEARed with a scheme to negate that.
"I'll teach you karate he said, with black belts I'll gauge
You'll be free to roam the pastures; free to frolic and forage".

With freshly bought gear with the swoosh on the lapel
The deer and the antelope took to the sport pell-mell
The hyena mingled about, ogling with an occasional leer
"You mastered the ancient art, now you'll have nothing to fear".

A roar was heard then and up charged the dreaded beast
The black belts were shredded. Midst the bovine feast
Gary the gnu saw the hyena with a mouthful sneaking
The cur remarked "'Nothing to fear' was just a manner of speaking"

Wilbur, it's my bedtime, 11:06 PM and I just saw all those wonderful complex poems you posted at the end. You're just amazing. I'll try to comment on them, if I have time tomorrow--but thank you for these amazing offerings.

Owen, I hope your Vicar survived his drive.

CanadianEh!, hope your player survived his concussion, and am glad his fibula and goalie mask are okay.

Ol' Man Keith,

Thank you, once again, for your verses--
your ones today and from the past,
and we're thankful that they're free of curses,
that makes us treasure them however they are cast.
And nothing they say does us ever annoy,
they just make us happy, and give us joy.

Ol' Man Keith said...

Now that’s my kinda poem, Misty, using the alternating ABAB scheme, saving the rhyming couplet for the capper.

It manages to avoid the sing-song trap, in which readers pay more attention to the jingly effect than to the sense of the words.
And by saving the couplet rhyme to the end, you reserve the one-two punch that only works effectively when isolated like that.

Good job, me lassie!
It sounded real sassy…
