FLN, Misty, my real life Dad smoked, but not cigars. Although he died fairly young, it wasnโt the cigarettes that did him in.
I was probably the heavier smoker.
After starting with my Momโs Camels, my taste became rather โaffected.โ I smoked Parliaments when I wanted filters, and French Gauloises when I wanted to get the full effect.
I was up to 3 packs a day when the medical establishment came out against tobacco.
I got hypnotized to quit. It did not work immediately. Strangely enough, almost exactly 6 mos. later, I put down my cigs and quit cold turkey.
Did not find it hard.
I think thatโs what caused me to take up hypnosis research in connection with actorsโ role-playing two decades later. I learned & published some interesting things about the self-entrancing used by actors, and the difference between actors who play themselves and those who can take on a variety of roles.

Todayโs Jumble haiku<โฆ
This one might have been copied straight from a textbook on architectural engineering:
The supports referenced in todayโs piece act together to provide strong underpinning for each floor above. They โfixโ the higher deck in place.
One might say theyโre in an โฆ
โAct (of) Fixingโ
Beams and joists exert
fusionโa strong agency
under upper floors.

Keith - you have to change the date TWO places each day. The title, top left, and publish time and date in โ๏ธmenu at right.

I see you still start with ADIEU
Both beginning smoking and ending smoking are long stories. I started in OCS 1968 , stopped for six months in 71-72 and finally quit in 1974.
Did I tell that story?
In 72 my girl friend smoked Parliaments. Thinking no harm would be done I took a drag. Two weeks later I was on two packs of Marlboros a day

Confusing Case
The agency hired an expert
to address a legal confusion,
hoping he could exert
evidence to prove an illusion.
A victim had made a declaration
that he was hit with a joist while on vacation.
The agency's lawyer produced a clue,
that showed the charge was a fixation,
made up and quite untrue.
And so the case was dismissed
which made the victim rue
that his carefully organized charges
had just come out of the blue.
I-Bar
Joists exist in floor construction
To carry the weight of the walls
Compression and tension, fixation and fusion
All exert their agency.
Aha, OwenKL has used the Wordle!
WC- I presume you are referring to OMK re your ADIEU comment.
Misty- great story re the Case. โConfusionโ was a good variation.
OMK- I swear I did not read your haiku before composing! We do seem to go in the same direction with the words we are given.
I managed to add the Wordle and one of todays CW answers. Once again, I love your title riff.
I see where the publication date shows up above the date I type, Owen, but I thought that was automatically fixed on the date I worked it. I donโt know where in the menu I control that.
Iโll try to figure it out tonight.
Yes, WC, it serves me well. I donโt see a reason to change.

CEh! It is understandable that we would go in a like direction today. I don't know any other meaning for "joist" than in building construction.
Rather neat of you to borrow from the Corner for your title!
Misty ~ Wow, that is a pretty complex legal case you're making. I'm not quite able to follow it all, but I'm mightily impressed by the attempt.

Combining Tuesday and Wednesday again*
"But, children," Nora asked, "I see the results in the both of you
But what agency performed this miracle? What was the big breakthrough?"
[Lois answers]
I was living a fraudulent life traveling the width of the state
Before I ever caught wind of a program to change my sorry fate
I had to become fixated on change and building a new me.
Brick by brick, joist by joist I abandoned confusion and found harmony.
It was the fusion of effort and hope
(Along with trust in a Higher Power)
That enabled me to cope
[Chet chimes in]
The founders, Bill and Bob, certainly became famously iconic
Much like sagebrush and cactus became for the West symbolic.
And so a life of peace, joy and selfless giving
Epitomizes that which makes our new life worth living
WC
* I'm thinking Misty, especially, would like to try to find the Wednesday J's and riddle-solution before publication
Time for wordle
What an interesting and complicated smoking story, Ol' Man Keith. Thanks for posting it. So glad you were able to quit at some point. Aren't we all lucky that we were able to stop relatively early!
Sorry you didn't give a Wordle hint--I miss doing them but just can't manage without a tiny bit of a clue.
And it was a lot of fun to see how you both produced such similar verses, OMK and CanadianEh!. Even with two different poetic forms, your themes were so similar.
On the other hand, Wilbur and I both used the Jumble words too, but headed in fairly different directions. Thanks for your interesting ongoing productions, Wilbur. What an energetic talent you have.
And, Owen, I loved your model citizen verse--a delight.
