Hey, I solved the jumble tonight before going to bed. It was so easy that it wasn't all that satisfying. Really obvious pun. But kinda funny.
I read your poem with a lot of enjoyment, Owen. But then I started looking for the clues and solution, just for fun. Yep, there's clue one, two, four. There's the solution, ingeniously disguised as usual. But wait! Where's clue three? Look again, look more carefully. Look one more time to be sure. OMG, it's not there!
Great story anyway, Owen. Ends on such a positive note.
Time for some sleep.
Gah! You're right! I shall post a revised version below for the net seeker!
Marcus liked the woods, camping was his thing.
Away from electronics, to hear just nature sing!
It helped to soothe his cares away, being all alone.
So why did he agree these wild kids to chaperone?
He showed them how to build a warming campfire,
Let one use his flint. Third try they had a pyre!
As darkness closed around, gathered by the flame,
He told the age-old stories, frightening and tame.
Their splashing games in the lake disturbed his fishing;
Rowdy running, playing, made bird-watching wishing.
Though they got into his hair, he didn't let them down,
And found he sorely missed them going back to town.
Well, I had a little trouble with the fourth word in today's Jumble, and your poem helped me get that right away, Owen. But still had trouble with the solution, although, in retrospect, I should have gotten it pretty easily. Loved the colorful cartoon, with the couple enjoying their champagne on the beach, and the wife with a blossom in her hair catching the color of her dress. Nice to see the barefoot fellow so relaxed with his feet on the little step. Is that a sailboat having a bit of trouble in the background? And what is that red thing on the beach? At least I finally figured out that the gray thing next to the fellow's newspaper is his wig. Anyway, delightful and fun Jumble cartoon
A neat poem, detailing Marcus' woodsy outing!
Meanwhile, Mrs. Marcus had other things on her mind. From the look on that cartoon lady's face, she was expecting a more formal vacation, a truly elegant adventure.
Why, she had packed her old prom dress to wear at the gala ball, only to learn that there would be TWO fancy dress dances! Thank goodness, she had just enough time to get a spare gown before it was time to take off on their trip!

Three of the four words had a single vowel. I find that usually helps.
I just couldn't get SOOTHE. Words with lots of vowels are my bane. I thought of "the" ending.
That was a great poem.
