|Smiley face| _graft, inept, sequel, trophy, restore it.

The opening poem contains all the words (or variations of them) from today's Jumble.
Comments are welcomed! And couching them in Poetry is definitely NOT required.
Do not explicitly reveal any of the actual answer words until after closing time, but embedding them surreptitiously in comment sentences is encouraged.

FLN, Wilbur ~ I wonder what Charles’ problem will turn out to be…?
Funny that graft might be proposed (even as a J-given). Is he in the government, local or otherwise?

Nice to be able to catch up a bit with C.&L. Well timed, with the news of a new young champion at the National Spelling Bee!
I know Sandy has been an avid follower, so we’re all glad you’ve resumed posting.
But I guess she would rather not follow up in public.

Did either of my Wordle hints help—or are they just a bother?

OK, I did the Wordle, Wilbur, W/O scanning the answer first.
It is hard to avoid the sites that try to tip us off. I did see a hint, tipping the first letter, a consonant in the first quarter of the alphabet.
I will add that the answer is both a noun and a verb.
The rest is below, reminding us it is not all that hard.

Background to today’s haiku:
The Mayor tried skimming taxes,
then aimed to borrow on his
prize cup, awarded for “Honest Government.”
All this was intended…

To Restore his Fortune

The inept sequel
to his graft was his attempt
to pawn the trophy.

"Restoration"

At first the manager did laugh
when he was accused of graft
because his family his business staffed.

He claimed they more more adept
than previous workers who were inept.
But he could tell things were not going well
and realized this needed a new sequel.

And so former members he did to his staff restore
and now things are going better then before.

Sorry--should be "they WERE more adept" in "Restoration"

Let me repost last night's Fri, Saturday, 6/3,6/4/22
_modem, fauna, quaint, droopy;
"panda-monium".
Graft,Inept,Sequel,Trophy;
Restore it
—------
[Chet didn't get the answer to "The Big Problem". He's with Lois prior to the Saturday night meeting]
"Oh Chet, I enjoyed our trip to the zoo with the flora and fauna
And that panda drooping from the tree was a fitting sequel.
But your apartment is very cool. Outside's like a sauna.
And your iced tea with lemonade has no equal."

"My my, you still use a modem? That's so quaint.
And what's that trophy for , it looks like it's been restored"
"I actually won it at a Spelling Bee. My mother was floored.
And when I spelled chiaroscurist I was ready to faint."

"So what do you think Charles's problem is, Chet, graft?"
"No, it has to do with our matrimonium. I think he's daft"
He's making me feel inept. Let's get to the bottom of the thing"
"No matter what he says", Chet, I'm not returning the ring.

I also reposted a few lines about 'The Curtal FRIAR" over at CC's blog

I hope folks understand that 'murky" etc were from the J. Keith and Misty know that can be awkward

Note, we all have different styles: OMK uses ingenious haiku which carry a message while using 4 J's in 17 syllables

Misty concocts a story sparked by 1 or 2 J's and does her best to incorporate the rest including the riddle-solution

Speaking of...
Did Chet inadvertently give us a hint vis a vis "Uncle Charles by using the Latin term 'matrimonium'

Keith do you think Charles used the term? eg Are there legalities involved?

Good job, Misty, on your Wordle win!
You see how, with a little practice, ‘tis EZ-PZ.
On my first go I lucked into the same letters you uncovered on your third.

Heheh. This is an unusual poem for you today, flirting with the suggestion that crime does pay… Hmmm.
Looks like your “manager” wormed his way back into a cozy, comfy arrangement, re-uniting with partners-in-crime—to keep ‘em in line.
Guess he was ranked One-A by his local graft-board, eh?

Egad, Wilbur, are you suggesting Charles is a priest!?
Is that implied if you have him using the Latin for matrimony?
~ OMK
____________
Ps.
With regard to the AA theme, priests are stereotypically alcoholic, either practicing or recovering.

Complex relationship between Charles, Chet, and Lois, Wilbur.
But I'm glad Chet and Lois appear still happy and well, and still determined to go forward with their wedding.

Thanks for your response to my poem,Ol' Man Keith. I think the words "graft" and "inept" in today's Jumble put both our of verses into a negative direction. Thank goodness "restore" gave me a chance to end a little more positively. Hope your mayor didn't get much for his pawned trophy.

Ol' Man Keith said...

LOL, Misty ~ I am not sure how "positive" your ending is.
To "restore" staff presumably means he silences potential whistle-blowers by including them in the graft.

I imagine the bribery, skimming, and pay-offs must really be "going better than before" to keep both his "adept" family AND the previous workers happy!

I think chet referred to the use of the Latin in re. To the upcoming marriage to imply that there may be legalities involved. I have a suspicion.

I think Chet and Lois should get Aunt Nora involved.

Ol' Man Keith said...

Sure, there are always “legalities” involved. A marriage is a legal contract.
Are you saying Chet’s nuptials would be ILlegal*—is that it?
Is he already married?!
~ OMK
_____________

i.e., Ineligible to plight his TROTH?
And perhaps whip the powers-that-be, the marital witnesses into a froth?!

I’ll be taking the day off tomorrow, Sunday. I am still one day behind, but I’ll probably find a day to skip next week—either with our primary voting day, or the start of the Jan. 6 Committee hearings.
