Today’s Jumble Haiku:

From the faucet hangs a drop.
Nothing inside it, it falls, plop.
The water bag
Will start to sag
As it fills, to the side it will flop.

Gouge Out those Blues

In the autumn of life
Wisdom should be gained.
Issues that might cause strife,
Now fizzle and wane.
If your mood should droop,
Get away from the group;
Try out those swings,
And give yourself wings.

Quick post this morning as we are off with the other set of grandkids for the day. Catch up later hopefully (if I have the energy).

"Mood Swings"

Irene had to deal with an issue
that made her cry, and she needed a tissue.
A fellow she had considered a honey
had changed, and now gouged her for money.

This made her feel scared and numb,
until a friend gave her some wisdom.
He had her tell the guy if his threat he renewed
she would get an attorney and have him sued.
And so, by autumn, Irene did swing
in a much better mood that made her sing.

Two poems
___ _____
In the Spring of life we learn so much
To walk and talk and think and such.
Summer, adulthood, we labor and earn
Issue out what we struggled to learn.
Autumn comes, our golden ages,
To pass on our wisdom as elder sages.
Dire Winter gouges our body and soul.
Pains, and losses, and our minds unscroll.

Emo music can be many things,
As of feels the performer sings.
He morns life's arrows and slings --
Emo Lindy Hop dances are mood swings!

Wishing you a good transfer of energy, CEh, from the grandkids to you!
Your poem suggests wisdom too can be had being alone from the group, trying out swings, thus gaining your wings!

Misty, it seems, using Irene as your example, may need an attorney to see thing set aright. Ah, but that’s only if you find yourself wronged in some uncivil manner!
Best to be not too trusting of honey-seeming fellows!
Be on the lookout!

Perhaps it is best not to read too much that’s personal in one’s poems…

Lovely verses this morning, with lots of good advice to Seniors--many thanks for that, to all of us, everybody.

Owen, I liked your verse especially, though it makes me wish I could stay in my golden age for another decade or more.

CanadianEh!, and during my golden age, I'll try to especially heed your advice.

OMK, I was going to ask you for recommendations for any great summer resorts. But then I realized that, living in Laguna Beach, I should just get out of the house and go down to the beach a couple times a year--that would work great, wouldn't it?

Wilbur, I'd forgotten Charley Brown's dog's name--I guess it wasn't Sleepy?

Heheh. Glad my snoop hints worked for you, Misty.
And yes, we are already living in a year-round resort area.
When I was living in LA, I would spend summers house-sitting for a friend in the hills of Laguna Beach.
Back then,I would jog every day down to the beach. Swim. Sunbathe. Jog back up. Aah, it was great exercise--with cool refreshment in the middle.

Now that I live in Irvine, it is about the same. Back when I first lived here, I could bike to the beach every day.
Of course, now that I can't jog--or bike--I can only daydream of swimming. Still, I can sunbathe--right on my patio. The pleasures may be fewer, but my ability to appreciate has not diminished.

(Reminds me of a line from Bรผchner's WOYZECK. When the soldier is speaking of his old mother, he says, "She can still feel the sun on the backs of her hands.")

Enjoyed your comment, many thanks, OMK. And I love your Woyzeck line--delightful!

I hope we aren't jinxing ourselves--displeasing the climate gods--when we write of the joys of SoCal weather.
Let's remind ourselves, we aren't boasting, but humbly counting our blessings.
As climate change is creating hotter summers elsewhere, with colder winters, and more dangerous tornado seasons in between, our weather remains (so far) close to our norms.
We get 80s
& a few 90s days in summer,
then 60s, down to some 40s in winter
(that's when I must do my sunbathing in the courtyard on the front--southern--side of our home; chasing the direct sun where we can register low 70s temps).

Fall is usually our extended summer.
Spring is often the disappointment: we may feel the warmth of the coming summer, but we don't get to see the sun as much. May gray and June gloom can be depressing.
Y'know.

How're other folk doing?

I forget: Our Canadienne (is that correct?) may not remember to translate Fahrenheit to Celsius.

I shall try to interpret.
In winter, we average about 15.
When we drop to between 4 and 7, we can still seek 20 in direct sunlight (barring breezes).
In summer, we're up in the high 20s and even (rarely) in the very low 30s.

I hope that's right.
~ OMK

Thanks OMK. I was raised with Fahrenheit temps, and now can use them both (sometimes interchangeably). I am used to much wider temperature variations of course - sometimes as low as 0F in a really cold January, and the occasional summer day or week in the mid-nineties (with humidity to make it feel hotter). It seems that we Canadians are always talking and complaining about the weather, but secretly we like our four seasons.

Misty - poor Irene. Hopefully she has no more problems with that fellow, and can continue to sing.

Owen- wonderful poems. The first seems a sad progression, but true to life.

This facility I'm in seems to have more than its share of dementia patients, and I'm worried that my spouse is also going thru it, without me around to take care of her. So that sad progression is on my mind. The second poem, i hoped,, rinsed the gloom awaay.
