My weekend’s busy with medical tests
and an MRI, so chances aren’t the best

than they were at first—‘cuz I’m making this terse.

There’s no wiggle room
In that pirate costume.
But let’s be upbeat
With sandals on your feet.
Be glad you are alive,
and learn how to thrive;
Create a useful life,
And try to avoid strife.
Xavier O'Hara, used pirate ship salesman,
Wistfully thought of his days on the main
("This one's two owners, both little old maids,
She'd only use it to plunder on Sundays!")
Xavier kept upbeat by thinking of an island;
Doffing his sandals, wiggling toes in sand.
What he did now was useful, paid gold.
He cleared a bundle on each ship he sold.
But the call of the wind, waves, and surf
Reminds him of his happiest days on earth.
Oh, to be sailing, his spirit would thrive
On cannon broadsides, barely staying alive!
He would get up, in flounce shirt, snickersnee,
And play as the fiercest ruler of the sea!
Owen- what a wonderful poem you give us today. I laughed at the little old maids only using the pirate ship to plunder on Sundays!
Xavier with his memories of his days on the main finds it hard to be content with the humdrum of daily life onshore (even though the money is better). Don’t we all have those memories of our past (perhaps improved by the passage of time)? Ah, youth!
"Gambling"
Pete was pretty irate
to be cheated by a pirate.
He at first had been upbeat
that he didn't have to cheat
to earn a useful treat.
But the game created a scandal
that Pete could hardly handle.
His new poverty forced him to jiggle
his last cash, to give him room to wiggle.
But in the end Pete won a big bet
from which a huge reward he did get.
Now everyone gives Pete a high-five,
because he will now permanently thrive.
The last line of my poem reveals it's not really Xavier's pirating days he's nostalgic for, but his boyhood playing at being a pirate.

Misty- Poor Pete- cheated, scandalized, impoverished. Wow, you really got your hero into a mess today. Glad his luck changed. Great story.
