โOde to Sleepinโ, Beautyrestโ
Hello, itโs me once again, just checking in,
to remind you I wonโt be on duty today.
Iโve been true to the muses without cease, & within
poetasterly limits, posed my six-day array.
Now comes my bed, called โBeauty,โ & a day of rest,
which some acclaim the Sabbath, but this old sinner
calls merely Sunday, though I do say itโs blessed,
because any day sans travail is seen as a winner,
a very good look! My thanksโand I wish those on duty
may each write a bookโฆ while Iโm asleep in Beauty!
(The final couplet should be spoken aloud.)
~ OMK
"Skit Hit"
Wendy wanted her family stigma to outwit
so she wrote up a comedy skit.
She set the action in a casino
that, of course, opened in Reno.
It was a place of considerable finery
equipped with an adjacent winery.
Their liquor was tart and never syrupy,
and its sequel was having customers happily pay.
Wendy's skit had a way of being funny and nice
and earned her a slice of a generous price.
In golf, there's a stigma
To a shot that shuns the green,
And it's a puzzling enigma:
How oft tyros do it is obscene!
It might be it's following the winery tour,
Or an all-nighter on the casino floor.
Sampling too much of the bubbly d'jour
Or attempting to roll a hot score!
Maybe a sequel to the breakfast bar,
Or a plan to outwit received wisdom.
Pancake syrup turning fingers to tar,
Or the hubris of an unpolished system.
Any way it works out, it isn't nice.
If it isn't a hook, then it's a slice!
The main door to the department store
Should be centered on the ground floor.
So patrons flow in,
Altho thick or thin,
Thru an inviting double door!

Alternatives to OMKโs BeautyRest.
Decisions, decisions!
How shall I spend my free-time weekend?
Enter the day with my usual bran flakes,
or make a batch of maple-syrupy pancakes?
Watch the sequel to that favourite TV show,
Or try to outwit the pros at the casino?
Perhaps tour a winery with chateau,
And charcuterie lunch on the patio.
There is no stigma to staying home,
Not everyone is meant to roam.
The day is yours, any way you slice it,
The hours neednโt be a precise split,
Whatever you want is what I recommend.
Hello all, we had a great day with the grandkids yesterday (thanks Misty). I need a day of rest today, like OMK, to recover.
Enjoyed your Wordle poem today Owen. (Sneaky to add that C to the W)
And your J poem took the golf route for the Slice. We were given some enjoyable alternatives for some entertainment in the J words today. You remind us to take care in our choices if we want to succeed in golf afterwards.
Misty offers a lively story with Wendy and her attempt to remove the family stigma with a skit hit. In her poem, โsliceโ refers to a portion of the profits. (I do think that perhaps you made a typo, as I would really like to see the customers โpay happilyโ to maintain the rhyme scheme of that whole second verse!)
Ol' Man Keith, you're the first person I've ever met who gave his bed a name. You know, a "bed" is not a "pet"? But I guess yours is. Well, why not--enjoy your "Beauty"!
Wow! Owen, you must be an amazing golfer to create a wild day like that for your players after and before their game. And I have a great idea: why don't you ask CanadianEh! to join you? She might enjoy playing a game or two before heading off to the winery at the chateau.
CEh!, you are displaying amazing skill as a literary critic today. It was very generous of you to read and comment on our verses on such a busy day.
And, hey, Wilbur, do us a favor: also give us a poem with some flavor!
CanadianEh!, I just re-read your weekend poem, and I think it will be a favorite of mine not just for the lovely verse design, but for the sentiment it expresses. I think pretty much the same way about my weekends, and in the end decide it's okay to just stay home and have a quiet day. So I'll take your recommendation.
Thanks Misty.
Iโm glad that you enjoyed my poem, and got the Wordle.
